Have any of you noticed how ulgly windowed screen mode syncs? Full screen exclusive mode looks better, but it's slower.

Actually, it should be the total opposite. Windowed mode syncs are having to use an offscreen buffer to implement a "poor-man's page flip". In full screen mode DirectX can actually handle true double buffer page flips accomplished by a quick memory address change. Windowed mode cannot do this. It has to actually copy the offscreen buffer to the primary display buffer (which is ten times slower).
