what kind of texturs db reads? format colors size...

There's quite a lot, that's for certain. Here's the ones I know:

bmp, dds, dib, jpg, pcx, png, psd, rle, tga and tif.

As for size and colour depth, I don't think there's a limit. Unless you use the images for textures that is, in which case DB will automatically resize the picture to a power of 2 (32, 64, 128, etc). I think it does, anyway.
