Go to the main page of darkbasicpro.com and you will find the following

Bone Based Animated Model Support (+ Mesh Deformation)
DarkBASIC Professional provides total control and support for these bone based animation formats: .MD2 (Quake2), .MD3 (Quake3), .MDL (Half Life). Now animated characters will move and animate smoothly.
The ".X" & ".3DS" model support are also still supported.

yep, Hilmi2k.

It's been discussed somehow. That paragraph did let me with some doubts, though. Vegeta told me the performance in a game would suffer. Well, is much better if you directly read the post. http://www.darkbasicpro.com/apollo/view.php?t=4674&b=1 (it's mostly in page 4 and 5, if I remember well)

Anyway, I as an artist keep interested on that fact.

Currently the use of these format is ... IFFY at best.
Wait for Patch4 for anything like this (unless your not already developing your own format to achieve this) - because DBO is likely to offer us greater compatibility and setup.

If you wish to achieve these effects on your own, please by all means read that post for the costs and benifits it might reap

but it is almost certain any advanced feature you wish to use you will really need to learn a working understanding of MemBlocks.

I got my .X models to mesh deform with only a few tries using Milkshape. I had no luck with 3DS.

Kensupen's tutorial on the subject, http://dakoren.home.attbi.com/, will give you a dancing mesh-def .X column in no time. (Thanks, K!)

In Max you need to use the skin modifier.
