I was looking through the DEV diaries of Lionhead studios, and I found the quote below. Dont ask my why, and dont ask me how, but I think this is pnultimate proof that most programmers have a decent sense-of-humour. Enjoy.

[This is a piece of code one of the developers was talking about]

I can see a bitter programmer finishing with his day and typing that in spite of the code for crushing his soul and patternizing his thoughts. that's pretty funny.

Most programmers have a sense of humor and do that kind of crap all the time.

It's the british programmers that don't.

I usually find anything that is sarcastic, satirical or ridiculous to be humorous.

I'd like to give you an example, but I'm afraid you just wouldn't get it. Because, as we all know, in the UK they take out your humor glands at birth.

Ok, I take it back, there is one humorous person from the UK and that's Douglas Adams, but that's only because they didn't take his glands out. You know, because he's not jewish.

Just shows how much of a stereotypical view you have on British People doesn't it. (Were all posh tofee-nosed idiots you probably think)

Quote: "Ok, I take it back, there is one humorous person from the UK and that's Douglas Adams"

Ever heard of these? (probably not)
1. Only Fools and Horses
2. Blackadder
3. The Vicar of Dibley
4. Dad's Army
5. Fawlty Towers
6. Yes Minister
7. Porridge
8. Open All Hours
9. The Good Life
10. One Foot in the Grave

Ever heard of Tommy Cooper, Eric Morecambe or David Jason? (just a few random comedians and shows etc.)

I think your problem is, that UK humour is *very* diferent from American humour - (one of the reasons why the 'Avengers' script was changed, because it failed with American audiences; although this isnt entirely a humour issue) British humour is about cringy situations, (sometimes) very perverted stuff (like this post) and stuff you have to actually think about. Whereas my view of American humour.... just isnt humour. I only enjoy a couple of US comedies (scrubs etc. is very funny) however the rest are just.... not funny.

Edit:

more up to date, but no doubt less ppl have heard of them..
1. Spaced
2. Potatoes (can't remember if that's the full name)
3. Dinner Ladies
4. Green Wing
5. the Office

there's some more, but meh! those are the ones i like. I prefer Badiel & Skinner Live, Frank Skinner Show, Comedy Store, etc.. to the british comedies. Still Spaced is just class.

No offence to Americans but British humour blows some American stuff out of the water. None of that recorded laughter friends nonsense. I gotta admit Americans do slapstick / silly comedy well but some of the nuances in series like The Office are fantastic.

I remember confusing Ilya a while back with some pretty low level sarcasm, fantastic. A lot of it does go over people's heads though.

Subtle sarcasm (ie it goes over the heard of a sarcastic person) is a great skill to possess

Just goes to show that you have no grasp of my kind of humor.

You guys can't base your opinion of American humor on shows like 'Friends'

Check out MASH, Scrubs and House. The medical comedy is apparently where we excel.

The US version of the Office is pretty funny, too. Arrested Development as well.

Oh and of course Seinfeld and Newsradio.

'Friends' is retarded, nobody watched that.

Friends has to be the worst show that lasted so long.

I enjoy some Canadian comedy shows, too, like Corner Gas and Just for Laughs Gags.

i quite liked friends, but each of the characters became more weird or more 1D as the seasons went on. I wasn't too impressed with a lot of it after season 4.

Scrubs is a show I liked from day one.
Enjoyed Mash a lot to, but it was never really on at times I could watch it growing up.. most of the time I watched Rosanne on C4 instead. Malcom in the Middle is cool sometimes.

This said most of the time American humour is obvious. Where'as most British/English humour relies on being more subtle. Or rather this generations humour does.. last generation was more about the class differences.

...and that is their downfall.

Anyway, good example of American comedy: "Saturday Night Live" Am yet to personally meet someone who does not think that show is funny.

We own you with Family Guy, American Dad, and Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law. Y'know you can't just separate it by British and American humor, you have to separate it by Funny People and Not Funny People. Friends is not funny, nor is Dilbert. I'd name some not funny British things that are supposed to be funny, but I'm not in the know.

To those who can't spot it

Ah well. Better than having recorded laughter to point it out

@ Jimmy - I do agree Scrubs is amazing. But it's more slapstick comedy and that sort of thing the US is very good at producing.
