Can I program the parallel port in DBpro to control a robotic arm for example?

Hmmm, good question.

You can access the file "lpt1:" using file access, but you can't have it open for both reading and writing at the same time. Maybe you can keep opening and closing the file in the correct modes.

The only thing I can suggest is to try it. If you need any help, just ask.

Thank´s IanM, I´m new to DBasic, so I´m wondering what it can do or not for planning a future game machine or kind of
contolled thing.
I will e-mail you if you dont´ mind when I came out with a definitive idea!

I know something that may help.
My brother is an electronic engineer and he looked into this for visual basic.
VB does not have parallel port control commands either.
BUT!!
Their is a DLL that was made just for this and it works and it is free.
Try doing a search for it and it may just work with DB too.

*Shakes head* Please forgive him, he doesn't get out much ...

After a quick look, I found this site : http://www.logix4u.cjb.net/ that has the DLL and source.

The DLL should be directly usable using the built-in DLL commands, or ...

It looks entirely possible to make this into a TPC DLL, to add commands for port access directly into DBPro.

Hey! The forums are really cool!
All of you are really nice people, but, of course Randi not only came up with the workaround tip, she is healing my soul and computer needs too.(I read Her profile too).
Seriously I think that games interacting with controllers
other than force feedback joysticks are a very interesting
development.
Ian, thank´s for the link!
