What is the most objects/matrices that anyone has used in a game (with it running properly)?

I once tried to make a program to test how many polys my pc can render in real-time in DB (non textured)

I imported some models in quite high quality and by turning them on or off I wanted to figure out with how many polys the program worked smoothly

but it worked with al objects on, which is over 40,000 polys

well in my game engine, every object in the level is made from default db stuff, mainly cause I dont want to recode my collision for something else. So I will have quite a lot of objects...

I am making a world-editor for DB programs, which allows you to create & position objects and matrices.
So I would like an idea of a suitable maximum number of objects, matrices and images.
This also means that numbers that are not used in the user's world can be used in the interface (e.g. to show what a model looks like before you put it into your world).

you can have 65530 ... that appears to be the max atleast on a system i tested it on. Was doing a stress test for gameSpace and was incrementing the objects with the "+" key
crashed on 65531, so i'm not sure if it made that many was really crashed on 65532 or what cause it died seconds after 65531 was made

you shouldn't ever really need that many though

db handles 65k objects not 65k polys, but I want to know how many people actually use.

If when creating worlds wouldnt objects be still, I say a max 9k (alot i know) but if you where creating a dense forest with a hut and a lake and stuff, then yeh, matrix's I dont tend to use, say have the max DB lets you. Images - hmm, again in 3d games images dont get used much for anything other than textures, so again 9k. That helps?

9000 objects,eh? My guess of 2000 wasn't very good then. (I haven't made any 3D games yet, but once I make some decent tools, I will try to make something).
For matrices I guessed 10 (although 2 is all I can imagine someone needing).
