If you're trying to install it from a DVD drive (and you've got a CD-Writer too), try it from the other drive.

Alternatively, you could try copying everything to a temporary directory and try to install from there.

Its also possible you've got a dodgy CD and/or CD/DVD drive.

Yes, I really am THAT good...

What language operating system are you using? (i.e. French WindowsXP, or German Windows98, etc) - I wonder if it's related to this, I will check with the rest of the team but please let me know first.

Cheers,

Rich

The only thing we've collectively thought of is that it's most likely your CD-ROM not allowing the protection system to check the CD properly. I'm afraid the only thing to try would be to try with another CD-ROM drive somehow, or reconfigure the one you've got (using Device Manager) perhaps. We're really not sure what else it could be. Do you have any software installed that would prevent the CD being read? Perhaps some system debugger or monitor? We're running out of ideas right now without more info to go on.

Cheers,

Rich

Regarding the post above, Wasin Pirom and I have ordered original DBPro. We have received the first copy (of the two we ordered), but we cannot install in a number of computers. I am not sure what is wrong, but the error message keeps on coming up:

'Please insert the Dark Basic Professional CD-ROM,select OK
and restart application'

To add this, I've included a system diagnostic of one of the computer we tried to install in. Its running windows 98 Thai Version:

If I remember correctly, its due to the way DVD/CD are made - possibly due to the fact that they can't overburn/exceed the 74/80 minute limit (which if I remember SafeDisk 2 needs to write its 'dodgy' data)

Pisal - are all the computers you tested on running Win98 Thai version?

I do think it's a SafeDisc issue (i.e. it doesn't work on the Thai version of Windows) but can't be sure yet, I will ask the other team members to have a look at this.

Cheers,

Rich

I've tried with Wasin with 6 different computers with different configurations (Some of them are old computers some of them are newer).

We have tried to install on the following platforms Windows 98/ME/XP (Home Edition) which are all Thai Version and it doesn't install due to the Cannot Find CD problem.

I was thinking about grabbing the stats of the other computers also, but I also wonder if somehow the CD check is having problems with the Thai Windows?

I would say it's probably 99% guaranteed that the protection software used on the CD does not operate under Thai Windows. We are looking at providing a USB dongle instead but in the meantime unless Lee can post a message here telling you how to get around this problem I would suggest contact Rick (rick@darkbasic.com) to arrange a refund of your money.

Cheers,

Rich

I've been using DB for a few years. I find it to be an interesting game compiler, and something that fits well for a weekend developer like me.

The major problem is the lack of data structures that make larger game projects to be hard to control. DB Professional seems like a step in the right direction, as it has basic data structures that we are looking for. I and Wasin have tried the trial version, liked it alot as it shows lot of promise, and were looking forward to start a larger game project with DBPro.

Since we are looking forward towards that, our first priority is to find how to make this work. Hopefully we can

The above posts are in the right direction. This is most likely a SafeDisk and CD-ROM issue. Some CD drives are just sensitive to certian CDs.

I've experienced this problem with other products (like programs from Magix). Another CD-ROM drive solved it.

Aye. Finally managed to get it installed with another computer. I'm pretty much confused, but it suddenly works!

I guess it must some issue regarding the CD reader, but I'm pretty much clueless on why

Thanks anyway, and sorry to be causing alot of trouble
