Don't excpect pity because you say it 'sucks'. You're not going to get any.

You really need to use a program that is more in your capabilities. Have a go at Milkshape - I will guarantee you can make better models in it, because starting modelling in Max...uh oh.

You can use Max to make this...yet you think Milkshape is hard?

That makes absolutly no sense at all.

Gotta agree with Sniper, if you can use max then using Milkshape should be a piece of cake.

That's assuming AZP isn't just regurgitating tutorials that he's studied for Max - but really anyone with any modelling experience can use Milkshape, it's really just a matter of familiarity. Max is about 3 times as complex as any other modelling package I've used.

Personally I think that giving yourself a set poly limit and a handful of real guns to work on would be more beneficial than any of this. Like choose a specific real world gun, and then get all the concept art you can find that's useful and decide on a poly limit (maybe 1200 for a rifle, 700 for a hand gun). Recreating real guns is easier because you just have to worry about being accurate, not the extra hassle of originality or creativity. I know the guns your showing are all sci-fi, but they do look very familiar, IMO if your going this route then trying for authentic recreations is the next step.

A pack of guns from the same modeller is better than 1000 guns by different modellers, because continuity is very important - a little pack of real weapons would be very usefull and would teach you more about how to put weapons together for FPS games - especially if you make them working models, so they can be reloaded etc, it's much more fun to make working weapons IMO.

dark coder, when you double post the same thing like that, its usually because you accidentally hit the Post Message button one too many times, and i wasnt referring to you when i said i wanted to see the models. i dont really care, i was just saying that people should take it easy on AZP, i mean, i thing those are really sweet models, who cares about the trigger, and the boxed shaped models, they make it realistic(the box part), thats all i am saying, not really meaning anything exept sticking up for AZP, not trying to be mean

Its called constructive criticism. All I'll let you know we take it pretty easy around here. Go over to CG Talk and the will -DESTROY- your model. People need to take C&C to make their models BETTER, not to take it 'oh then i must suck i quit' as AZP seems to. Its called being mature and being able to take peoples ADVICE.

Dark Coder works on a lot of HL/BF mods, so hes modelling guns and stuff left and right, he knows the ways guns work, and knows how they should look so he can give really good C&C on gun models.

@Zero 43: Half-Life models were made in Milkshape, just wanted to let you know that before you go bashing it

The very fact that there is so much critique should show that there is a lot of potential - most people won't waste time critisizing horrible models because often there is nothing worth improving .

I see AZP as someone who can make weapon models, and with practice and texturing he'll be making great models before too long - he has to consider what people are telling him though, because the most important factor in improving is actually knowing where you need to improve.

At the end of the day though, with a good texture job most of the comments would have been different, the fact that AZP has shown untextured renders means he will get more critique and less ego fuel.

i think freindly critisism is hard to put across in a post without it being misinterpreted.
all my stuffs crap so if i show anything then there wouldnt be any room left on the board for anything else so i know where to try to improve, when my stuffs better ill put it on and everyone can feel free to knock it.

well ive just come to the point where i dont see the point in sugar coating my replies, it doesnt help anyone or atleast it doesnt help me, if theres some big flaw with there model then yes i point it out i dont say wow your model is freaking amazing however you could try to improve this part as im not sure if its correct, sure that may sounds more appealing but it doesnt help anyome, i would prefer for someone to say that part looks really out of place and should be remodelled or something, and since people dont seem to like critisizm on these forums for the most part i dont reply on anyones topic because anything i do say wont be positive,

i replied to this topic because i can actually see improvement, dont believe me look at his earlier guns compared to that pistol there like 1000% better imo, if everyone replied to his earlier guns saying wow thats some amazing stuff i dont think he would have improved/ improved much, as he would have thought that that is very good work so he would have continued producing work of that quality, maybe i just like perfection i love to nitpick and people to point out error with my models and this is the reason why i never post my work here as i know what replies to expect.

Basicaly your telling us what to think about it. One thing i noticed... on the end of the gun. The Barrel has no hole in it. But the circle below it has.

you models still look too 2d. for instance most guns dont have a trigger guard that is as wide as the gun. and the grips should be rounded more. also the ejection port needs to be taller and most guns dont have it on both sides. those and a few minor touch ups and it will be a great model. you really should keep modelling because you are showing lots of progress

i think hes just using simple old clay renders ie light tracer, which is what most people do, whats wrong with it? it shows all the details nicely better than a crappy default render.

Dark Coder, most people do not render like that. Have a look, which is better?

BenDstraw - but they're not better renders. The just look like standard renders with Gaussian Blur turned up to about 10.

wtf you idiot,

his renders arent gaussian blured there just using global illumination, which puts shadows behind polys and around various parts so you can see details better,

i dont see why your all complaining a render like his should only take a 1min tops to do and i see no problem with that.

[EDIT]

well since standard no frills render with gaussian blur to 10 is identical to using gi lets see!

omg i see no difference, ill just show everyone my models using gaussian blur next time..

Dark Coder, I must defer that "wtf you idiot" back to you. Note I said "the(y) just look like standard renders with Guassian Blur turned up". If you passed standard English (judging by your post, you probably didn't) you'd notice the use of a Similie.

A similie is where you compare something to another thing. For example "the sun was as hot as a fire". Similies use the words "as" and "like", so it's easy to spot them!

So, while you were out proving something I never actually said, the point remains that your GI render looks nothing like AZP's blurry renders.

Global Illumination is a lighting teqnique, correct? Answer me why AZP'S edges on his guns are blurred across about 5 pixels? It shows use of some kind of blur filter, on top of possible use of GI.

(That was a rhettorical question, by the way)

my comment still stands, and it seems you didnt pass standard math 5 pixels? it looks like anti aliased to me, and i call using gi a standard render, whats wrong with making your models look nice? its an unskinned model afterall a basic render just doesnt cut it as you cant really see any of the details good enough.

No, your comment doesn't still stand. And yes, it is blured by about 5 pixels. Considering that post contains over 20 mistakes, I wouldn't mis-interprit my education. Especially since I'm one of the best at Maths in my school.
GI renders are fine, but look at yours then look at AZP's. His are heavily blurred, and teh one you posted isn't. And a "basic render" is much easier to see the details than a blurry ones. For the love of god, how can you say that it's easier to see details on a blurry render?

probably in a special school ^^

anyways look at azp`s renders they dont see bluured so much to the point i cant see the details, its not like those renders hide any details so i dont see the big fuss with the so called gaussain blur set to 10 renders.
