I recently tried installing DB (V1.08) on my new computer, which runs on Windows XP (home). As soon as I tried executing anything, a blue screen full of text popped up for a second, before the computer rebooted. The same thing happened when I tried running a DarkBASIC-made .exe (Ballz). When I tried to install DirectX 7.0a, it said 'The "Microsoft DirectX 7.0a Setup" package is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running'. Did anyone have the same problem with XP?

this problem was solved with the 1.13 patch
but i'd also install a never version of DirectX (either within Service Pack1 or from the net) as WindowsXP was released with an incomplete version.

DarkBasic 1.08 was the final release, which came with DirectX 7.0a, which is incompatible with XP, if you've installed it i find your XP CD and reinstall even the standard version!!!

else... any good games mag will have either 8.1 (most stable) or 9.0 (best performance) versions of DirectX on them

Thanks for the help.
I upgraded it to 1.13, and I will install directX 9 as soon as I connect it to the internet.

Well, I've installed directx 9, and checked it by running dxdiag, and the same blue screen full of text pops up! I know it's unlikely, but if anyone has any ideas about this, please tell me what you think the problem is.

I had this problem with XP (also with other games.)
Event hough i had Db1.13 (And still have), And DX8.1, XP was a son of a B*tch to work, in fact ... it didn't. I never did manage to get DB to work on Win XP. Also i couldnt get revolt, Roller Coaster Tycoon (needed a big patch), GTA 3, SIm CITY 3K caused hassle, and many others, including by broadband internet wouldnt works, so i scrapped XP and put Win 98 bacxk on my PC, its much better

16 Consoles and 200+ Games. Thats some addiction!

i installed the service pack once, and that was enough for me because once I did, a lot things would not run on my p.c. The service pack itself is somewhat incompatible with some computers. A good example of this is that hewlert packard themself released a patch to deal with this issue and I do recall reading somewhere that someone from microsoft said somewhere in their articles that it wasn't a good patch and didn't recomend updating.
Cheers~
