I made a game called Recon : Crypt in 'The 3D gamemaker' and so far over 1 million people have played it!

What is it about: Go down into your towns graveyard and kick some butt! Can you save the town before its too late? Can you defeate the big boss? Can you live past death?

You can play and download my game here :http://www.netdemons.co.uk

Instructions for downloading:
1. Click on the download button.
2. Save to a folder
3. Goto http://www.netdemons.co.uk and download the patch.
4. Extract the patch to the folder where the exe file is.
5. Now you can play the game!

Sys Req:
OS: ALL (DOWNLOAD PATCH NEEDED TO PLAY)
RAM: 64MB +
GRAPHICS CARD: ON-BOARD + (ANY)
DIRECT X 7.0 + ( DIRECT X 9.0 SURGESTED)

Call me a sceptic but...

download.com shows 2,066 downloads, slightly short of 1 million.

With so many people downloading, it only has one review.

Oddly the reviewer has never commented on any other product on download.com

FIRSTLY: A good enough game and quite a sharp little website too.

BUT, I'VE GOT TO BE A SMARTASS TOO: It's pretty unlikely you've got a million downloads, sorry man. My last game Time Ship has been stuck everywhere on the web (it's quite a small filesize and it has low system specs so it's quite popular with games sites) for coming up to 11 months, and it's only had <100,000 downloads. That's a tenth of a million.

Fun game. It is entertaining and is very similar to Doom in graphics and game control. I don't belive that 1 million people have played this game but it is really fun.

Im sorry you only had < 100,000 but maybe people just like his game more? It IS possible you know... Why would he lie about something so stupid when he makes no money off of it? People in this forum are so quick to call someone a liar without ever giving them the benefit of the doubt. Anyway, maybe he is lying, maybe he is not, but for now, i will just say I believe him until i have reason to believe otherwise.

@netdemons: i don't have internet on my computer and can't play that game in the computer lab, but are there screeny's somewhere?

Yes this was made in the 3d gamemaker.

I've had only 2000 odd people play from download.com, but the magazine publishes (it has been on a magazine too!) to over 750,000 people and my international sites have had over 2000+ downloads.

I may be exagerating a bit, but hey! Its nearly true!

You will have to have Direct X 7.0 +

I see that you like drag and drop game development.
I'm a programmer myself but sure i have Fps Creator, just for having fun while relaxing a bit.
I see that this is a fps shooter game. So why not check out fps Creator? Really that much better than the 3d game maker

There are physics. You can make online multiplayer games. And really. Everything in it is great! And you don't need to, but there are also scripts in it. Oh, also in fps creator you can sell your game wihtout buying a license

also check out the fpsc boards. They are on this forum too.

I didn't attempt in any way to make a commercial for the game creators. I just wanted to tell him about it. Since he like the 3d game maker. Fps creator should be SOOOOO much better!(It is )

I must applaud you for your marketing skills. How did you get so many downloads? Sorry, but Megaton provided sound judgement on the quality of this game. In fact, the first computer I tried it on didn't even run it properly. Wasn't even junk, Geforce 2 1.3ghz Celeron and 256mb ram. This thing typically handles 3d Game Maker with at least 40 FPS and no loading troubles.

Still, how did you get it on so many magazines and get so many downloads on download sites?

I dont know really...

I just kind of set up my website, made a few links to other gret sites, and there it was! A good storyline is better than the graphics. I took sometime learning about T3DGM and then just designed a game. It's really as simple as that!

It's like working with Timesplitters, you just have to spend a little time thinking about what the games about, market it on the sites that do other games like yours, and cross your fingers!

Have you tried playing it on the 'Geforce 2 1.3ghz Celeron and 256mb ram' PC with the patch installed?

I've got a new game out now, its a moterbike racer. (not a great game, I admit. The graphics arn't exclent, but the levels are entertaining!)

Yeah I saw what you said, but I'd have to buy a new G card for my PC and FPS creator (both would cost about £150) and frankly I dont really have the money to do that!

really...wow, im giving up work.

soetimes advertising is more important than the product, i could name a few movies that have had massive publicity,but the film wasnt much.
ive not played your game,im sure its very good but ill say this.

you print one thing and suddenly everyones talking about you, good or bad its still publicity

Hmm this topic's cought my eye.... how is it your game is a huge success when your game is available on one website.

And another thing, i happen to be one of the people who help check the security of the servers and backup the statistics every month on download.com. Now, why is it the same IP address has downloaded your game exactly 1979 times and posted the only review?

I don't know? But what I will say is that my game has been very popular with the local high school, which uses the same I.P address for all the PC's. May thats why.

And how do we know that you are from download.com?

If you did though, then you could pretend that it was a great success, boast about it to your friends and the like.

I apologise if it really was the school that downloaded it buuuuut it seems unlikely that there are 1979 at one school. Well, at least, the maximum for people in a school that I have seen living in australia, for a local highschool is about 1000.

Game doesn't run for me, just crashes back to windows with a windows error "we're sorry this program has had to be terminated..." blah blah blah.

I'm quite suprised too. The game doesn't look bad, but a game with T3DGM hitting the big 1-0-0-0-0-0-0 is quite amazing. Dark Corridors is great, yet that's probably got 200 (mind you, it's not on download.com). Seriously though, 1mil? How long has it been up? Since the first second T3DGM was out? I'm not saying you didn't get a million downloads, but how did a T3DGM game get into a magazine? I haven't tried the game yet, but I'm assuming it's like every other game made by T3DGM. Don't get me wrong, it might be a great game, but that doesn't change the fact that every level is the same. And as for the story being the strong point, I don't get that. All T3DGM allows for is an intro cutscene. Other than that, you can't tell a story other than shoving a bunch of spectres in one's face.

I mean no offence to you, it just seems pretty... amazing.

The game has been up since about March (05).

I know, I was surprised about it too! But I put it on download.com and my website. Next, about a month afterwards, I got an email asking me if an Indian magazine ("Living Digital") wanted to put my game on a cover disk, who would say no? (the magazine containing the copy of the game has been sold 750,000 times, aprox)

Next two things happened,
1. I kept getting emails from different websites wanting my game to put on their site, spanish, frence, mexican and even brazilian were only to name a few. I said yes to all of them of course!

2. The local newspaper came round to give me an interview, (title: "14 year old's 3D game giant hit with India!" )

My websites hits have trebled over the past 3 months making it over 5,000 hits already this month (16/9/05).

The thing with the story is that its in text, "This allows the reader to create thier own story based on the idea's you put into thier head" - wittered on my english teacher, then it hit me! Why not do the same thing for the game!

I suppose I've had about 850,000 - 900,000 playing the game, but who knows how many people who have bought the magazine passed it on to thier friends?

HITS COUNT:
750,000 + (magazine)
20,000 + (my website)
2300 + (download.com)
20,000 + (international sites)

Total = 792,300 (and counting...)

P.S. Mr "download.com" guy, If you tell me the IP address of the person who downloaded it 1979 times then I can trace it from my website.

just because the magazine was sold 750k copies of that issue doesnt mean that your game was played that many times, and at the end of the day the ammount of people that play your game isnt a judge for how good it is...

This could have all been averted with a little humility =P

Even if your game is a HUGE success, that shouldn't be the focus and title of the thread. A thread in the game forums title... should be the title of the game. Logical, yes?

@Netdemons - I will assume you were kidding with the bushes remark, since that cute little glasses face is... well... a giver-a-wayer (if there is such a word ).

Just to clarify things, whether you are mad at my comment or not. I played your game, and it was better than a lot of T3DGM games I have played. Kudos. I am still very suprised at the whole amount of downloads, but I understand it's fully possible and you wouldn't bother trying to push people into a lie. In the end, all I can do is congratulate you on your success. I didn't think it was possible, but I was obviously wrong.

Some people use the @ symbol to direct something to somebody when it may be unclear who the person was talking to. I probably didn't need it, considering I wouldn't have been talking to anyone else, but I just put it in there so you knew I was directing my comment to you.
