Thanks Earth Lord!

A website (Finally )
http://www.irwinsoftware.com/ww3

Also, change in name - It is now Hostile Environment!

I'll have more new screenshots up soon.

EDIT: I updated the website! New screenshots!

EDIT 2: Oh, the shotgun does pump after each shot! And since it isn't compiled the new hud isn't in use but still..

Edit 3: Just some more info on the screenshots - That is one of the city levels. It doesn't have a whole lot in it yet, but I hope it to be great fun. I can see the player needing to stack boards to get from building to building right now
Please give feedback!

Chris I suggest you visit a 3rd world country sometime, then make a judgement about a country that doesn't force you into the military at 13 years of age. Using Greenday (although I like the band) as an example of what U.S. Foreign Policy should be, really reflects your inability to look past the headlines.

You're an alright kid, but you've got a lot of growing up to do. Don't worry though; you're not alone, there are plenty of kids out there who think that they know what they're talking about.

The latest compiled version (which is as far as I have gotten) is 101 mbs. Is that large or just normal? The level is even considered finished - and that is only one level. When the bunker mission (which is the one I am working on, maybe 2-3 levels) is finished I'll release it as a demo.

I haven't gotten to expirement yet, but I have the sudden desire to see if I can make a flamethrower......maybe later

I think he means your avatar, and it flared his sudden want for X-Men to be running.

Anyway, I didn't make the hud - it comes with FPSC, I just positioned it and took out the ammo image.

I've been looking around, all I can find are health.dds, etc. Where is the main HUD file that controls all the placements?

Looks like a sweet game. Hud seems somewhat like halo lol. I haven't used fpsc, but is it possible to add indicators for ammo and weapon choice and things like that? EX: a pict of a cartridge next to the ammo counter? Also, if it's wwIII then maybe things should look a little bit more futuristic(don't over do it).

p.s. the new green day is ok, but I like old green day better They are my favorite band :p

The file that controls all the placements can be edited in the File->Build Game menu. Go to level or whatever and select the setuplevel script or something like that.

I myself don't view it being to far ahead. Sure, it will have some futureistic things, as it is a few years in the future, but using all scifi things is a bit beyond. I plan to make it take place 2008 or something like that. Maybe 2012. Or 2014, I like that. I'll have to decide later.

Can't copyright an idea; there has to be a product for you to get a copyright.

Sounds like it's just gonna have to be a race to see who finishes first.

At one point, we were all new to FPSC. However, a n00b is a person who spams the forums with useless enquiries POST AFTER POST as to things that are on the first page of the manual. besides, this is not a thread on that subject, is it? i was commenting on this 'WWIII' debate, and your complete intolerance for the idea of someone else using the idea of world war iii, which has been in place since WWII ended. if you cant tell, these forums have been overrun with n00biness (not new people, mark me!) and its a real problem.

1. I had my WW3 game post up before any other WWIIIs in this showcase. You just joined about 25 days ago, correct? My post is older than that. Therefore, if anybody is stealing names (which I highly doubt) you are stealing mine. But I don't care, considering a good portion of the gamemaking community has probally thought of or attempted to make a World War 3 game.

2. Does it really matter? If you bothered to read the latest posts or check the website you will see that it is not called World War III anymore, but rather Hostile Environment!

EDIT: May I mention there are 3 world war III posts now? Mine is one of them, but it is renamed and I can't change the post title.

*cough**cough* < literally, I'm pretty sick

Anyway, I've made a new AI script (YIPPEE!) that is apparently WAY better than the ones provided. A little less hopeless running into walls

I've also customized some new FPEs for characters to get me on my feet quicker. I'm working on a good level 1 now, so off to work!

NEW SCREENS!!!!!

Screen One

Note: On this and the next 2 I enlarged the framerate to make it viewable when I resized the image. It's amazing how well it runs! Thank lack of dynamic objects and enemies spawn only when they will be needed.

Average Frame Rate: 27-32, SOMETIMES 24-26

Screen Three

EDIT: My brother tested it and he can't beleive the frame rates. Of course, all his levels are outdoor, have TONS of walkways and stacked stuff and all this other junk...and he REALLY likes dynamic objects.....his average framerates are.........5-10. Literally.

EDIT 2: And just to let ya know, he tested it yesterday. Not that it matters.

RATS! Found a slow spot

EDIT: Anyone have an idea why it might be JUST here? I can't really find much of any other place in the house where it gets that slow exept when it flashs to 24-26 and then returns. This is constant 24-25!

PRE-RELEASE DEMO:
http://files.filefront.com/Hostile_Environment_PR_Demo/;4542752;;/fileinfo.html

The loading screen is actually off, I forgot it was based in WWIII for the day

Though the Unbound Alliance might be used...so it might not be that off anyway. I'll update the website tommorow.

Neither can I, I get 20 FPS though most of my game (That is because of windows, and large rooms), it tops in the lower levels around 29 FPS. I just finished the final room, not that it was a hard thing, but I was still working on my other rooms.

Mabey it is all the lights, and dynamic entitys I use, I think I hold the cup in use of entitys and lights, haven't done a recent count but I have well over 100 lights, and 300 entitys. (No enemys yet)

P.S. Remind me to buy more ram.

In a few min, I will tell you how well it ran.

SWEET Install Program!

Okay, your game engine edit doesn't work (MFC71.dll). So the doors don't open.
Super fast loads...
I get a stable frame rate, I think, and...

HEY, you can't change the key assignments without telling us what the new ones are... AND WHAT THE??? Your door scripts don't even say we can use the them... Annoyed.

Okay, F is the use key.

I find it rather short. only 5 enemys. Also, few of the rooms are lightmaps, I was hoping for more then just the bland shadow color. (Making shadows, but not having the rooms be shadows). Thus results in a very easy demo. I took more time opening doors then anything else. Also, I know physics slows the frames down a bit, but can't you turn those boxes back the way they should be? It really doesn't hurt the game that much, poly leaks are a bigger problem.

Ok, good advice! The readme says all the controls - and my doorscript is old, it wants an image that was in my old install of FPSC that isn't there now. It's a new door icon.

And I think the loading is just a resault of the small demo - I think.

And isn't the MFC71.dll something with windows? I don't remember - its around this fourm somewhere I think.

I think I'll try to turn the boxes and stuff to dynamic, but only if it doesn't hurt the frame rate.

Ok, I tried to make it so the boxes were dynamic:

1. The frame rate is 2 or 3 less, but that isn't so bad
2. There are more slow spots
3. It's slower than before when you go around once enemies have spawned.

All in all, it should be ok - but I'm still thinking about it. I could just delete some of the boxes...

The frame rate is at 32-31 already, you can afford it. If it gets to 24 for more then 80% of the game, then that is an issue. I have a problem with the top of mine, but that is poly issues...

And let me guess, you're running background programs? I ran your game, and there were NO slowdowns, only slow down was while those 2 enemys were alive, and that was only by 4 FPS.

Also, a little fence may help, I never saw a house where you could jump off the edge...

Ya....the level isn't finished, per say, with the outside...

EDIT: I made a new launcher (screenshot included) that's pretty cool. The dynamice shadows are awsome, but as far as I can tell they shoot the FPS down to 10-11. It depends I guess. As far as I know, you need to go into the Setup.ini file to edit the dynamic shadows cause I don't think FPSC does it for you.

Nice demo! Really nice!
Pretty good level desing.
It took a while to realize that F is an use key.
Loading music was nice! Have you done it to this game?

Maybe some more furniture in entrance hall!
And some music that sounds in background during the game would be nice too.
There was only few enemies in the house! Maybe some more of them...

Ok. There were good and bad things in this demo.

Lets start whith the minus.

- Empty yard (No fountains, gardens, etc)
- Only few enemies
- No health packs
- Unpowered weapons

+ At least there was someting to shoot at.
+ Collegting those papers and money was interesting for some time.
+ Design of the house was good (but not perfect)

When making a demo you should make it long and put meny weapons and lots of enemies in it so the player can come back and play it meny times around before buying or downloading the full version.
If Demo level is short the buyer will think that the hole game is full of short levels that stop defore they begin. Sory but its true. Dont take this in eny offensive way.
I really liked this.

(Like Freedom Fighters or Quake 4. The demo was bit different then the original version.)

The pictures were great so Iam waiting to see how this turns out.

Good points! I'm working on a new demo with that launcher and everything. Oh, and an estimated comerical price (provided it goes comerical): $9.95. I also have an idea for my cut scences, though I still have to make a 'temporary' weapon removal.

What kinda game this is going to be?
Are levels linked to each other or are they single missions like in the demo?
And how many missions are you planned to do in this game?

Wether or not they link probally varies. Certain levels will link together, others might be seperate missions or something. I plan about 10-15 missions, with about 1-3 levels each. Lot of work though
