This is my entry for the retro competition. It's not the final version. But, I've a problem. On my computer(2.4 GHz, Geforce IV TI 4200, 256 MB ram) my game runs smoothly. But on two other computers in my house it runs slow... But they have 32 Video ram. I don't have a computer with something between 32 video ram and 128 video ram. Runs it smoothly on your comp, please tell me!

man that's one cool game, the music, the atmosphere everything just fit perfectly! i wish that kinda place existed 4real, i'd go there to chill/relieve stress good work and good luck oh yeah, do you just have to find all the blue things? what about enemies? would be a lot more complex than pacman but i assure you it'll give you a better chance!

oh yeah:

Pentium 4 - 1.7ghz
256 MB Ram
Nvidia GeForce2 Go 16MB DDR
OS: Microsoft Windows XP Home edition

ran smooth/fast enough to be playable ^_^ could do with a speed boost though, more speed is always welcome

Thank you very much for downloading and testing it. Yeah, there will be enemies, this was just a beta. The sky will be added too.

yeah some of the tubes are a little to transparent.. perhaps adding a fade to them (^_^)

generally it was playeably fast, but in some areas i wouldn't want to have to be running from ghosties

would say it ranged from 25-60+ fps some areas and like the longer looking areas i'd be quite slow - perhaps you could add an "if object screen x() > 0 and object screen x() < screen width() etc... etc..."
and then hide everything offscreen

and that texture for the box looks like its been scaled a few times too many (^_^), remember the more times you scale a texture to an object the greater the rendering and tex memory.

this was on a

Win XP Pro SP1

the music reminded me of a creepy Doom level hehee

Heh, very cool - can't wait to see some ghosts (or something similar) in it.

No slow down at all, very smooth, very responsive.

(P4-3Ghz, Radeon9700Pro).

Cheers,

Rich

Thank you all.
@Raven:
I'll try to do what you said. At the moment I've set the screen resolution to 800*600 with 32 bit. If I change it to 16 bit, would that help. And if so, is it dramatic?

its probably be slower running in 16bit colour mode... as the colour spaces have to be converted prior to the cards use

perhaps changing the resolution down to 640x480 will help on lower systems (^_^)
i'd do something atleast to hide non-visible polygons because they tend to be render'd no matter what unless you hide them - i dunno, does seem a little processor hungry - maybe the tubes could be less polygons or something.

run
print str$(statistic(1))

within the loop, lemme know what your getting - because really for lower end cards should be peaking at no more than 5,000
