Great looking model!

Good to see you are still involved in the community, with all the abuse you have been taking lately

great looking Dobbie. I bought the other two packs and like the a lot.

Question - I change the FPI in the FPE to chase but all I get is a running dog frozen in time (which is a good effect in itself if you are time traveling in your game..but..)

When he/she/it is in COWARD.FPI it does the head back and forth thing...good for guarding the any nasty temple or building...but I just can't train the dang dog to run on command.

OK..blast me...come on...I can take it....what am I doing wrong?

PS - Monster? Ignore the kids who are raking you over the coals.

I've seen that dog somewhere else ... in the place where I saw it -don't remember where exactly right now, you could also find at least 3 more animated meshes: a rat, a zombie and a ninja ...

Edit: found it ... http://www.psionic3d.co.uk

Moster, are you psionic3d?

Of course he never said he MADE the dog...just reconfigured it and offered it up.

So, are we all looking a gift horse in the mouth or being made into jack-asses?

well the least you could do Monster is do the rat too...

Killer rats would be a great thing.

Now since you pulled the wool over our eyes (and I WAS a paying customer) I think you owe us the killer vermin...you know...as one rat to another.

Monster,

Ultrahead is making a very valid point. The free dog you are offering seems to be identical in every way to the one offered @psionic3d.

Just a suggestion: posting items for DL on your site that are someone else's work might be detrimental to your credibility online, and might not be the smartest thing to do. This gives one the impression that you created the item for DL. Perhaps a link would have been a better idea.

If you have talent; if you have skill use them! Why taint your reputation by borrowing someone else's work?

This is not a flame. It is not a bash. My words are meant to alert you to the fact that your actions are giving your critics fodder, and your identity in this forum a blackeye.

Thanks,

Seth Black

Worst than that, the readme file says nothing else than "accode" (no mention to psionic3d).

That a set of models is free for any use doesn't mean that one can re-distribute ir or omit to say that they were built by a third-party.

I've said this a lot of times: if someone is planning to make a commercial game then that person should be really careful with the third-party assets that will use in the game (media, etc.), no matter how awesome they look.

To be fair Psionic has not put any restrictions on the use of his models only this

"If you use this model credits would be nice but arent essential!!"

So if monster guilty of anything its lack of courtesy in not mentioning that they are Psionics models.
Always be careful wiyh free stuff.

Well, this time is not about other people's ideas, right? It's about what I was afraid of the first place, other people's products, free or not.

So, if Monster is Psionic3D, then I don't see a problem. If he's got Psionic3D approval, also no problem. If Psionic3D eventually takes the position that he doesn't really care, well then no problem but still one should care a little more about Monster products.

One thing is courtesy; however, in the readme file Monster's provided it says "accode". I would't call that "lack of courtesy" ...

I was going to buy some of monsters pack, but seeing this dog made me think twice. I instantly recognized it as not being his own, it was too familair.

Who can assure that the content packs he's selling are really his own? I don't want to user 'stolen' work. I'm always careful with free stuff, I rather buy stuff. But I'm not sure if someone who gives away others stuff for free, claiming it as his own, can be trusted witht he stuff he sells.

I'll postpone buying his stuff until someone can confirm with certainty that he owns the copyright on it.

If I do use FPSC to create a FPS? What's a FPS supposed to be anyway???

Not trying to be neither devil's advocate or the ultimate righteous paladin, but allow me to share this with you all:

Taken from Monster's Dog FPE file

anim0 = 26,60
anim1 = 26,60
anim2 = 2,14
anim5 = 16,24

Taken from Psionic's 3D Dog Animation Info file

2-14 = walk anim
16-24 = run anim
26-60 = idle anim

I'm really speechless.

Like on many other issues involving Monster, he didn't do anything wrong in legal terms, but he sure stepped on the line of decency. I've tried up until now to see both sides of it. Personally I've done my best to believe that he is only using a market hole to sell his products.

Right now, this is really messes up with my stomach. What if I heard a music of mine somewhere?

I've contacted Monster sometime ago for a paid job. He replied nicely, I answered back. Until now, no reply, but he did get some info on my project.

What if that info is being used by him right now? It wouldn't bother me in commercial terms, but it would really annoy me. And I guess that's what annoys people that have been pointing some issues regarding Monster's behaviour.

@Monster

I do believe you have some skills. I really don't understand why you behave that way. I find it almost impossible that what I downloaded from your site isn't Psionic's art and that is simply gross. Please rethink your strategy and methods for your sake and to be part of a community, instead of some mysterious shadow monster that is loosing credibility.

I did buy stuff off this little &*%$# and my only recourse is to contact my credit card company. It is only 20 bucks but its the idea that bugs me. A lot of people work hard and to have some stooge walk in..put the stuff in a package then resell it. Man I feel foolish. And I was sticking up for his right to fill the void left by FPS lack of a package.

Legally your right..ethics are another matter.

He should have said, 'I found this great model...changed it to work in FPSC and now have it on my page for all to download.'

That is the way it is done plain and simple.

Again...there is the matter of that readme.txt. Hard one to get by.

It also reflects badly on his reputation. Its hard to get that back once u pull a questionable stunt.*

I'm looking into this; is the model available for free download, and is that model part of one of the DarkMatter packs?

It looks familiar to me too, but keeping an open judgement for the time being.

The point is not on the dog model ... think of this: no one noticed that the mesh was not created by Monster until someone pointed that out. And in the provided readme one can infer it was created by accode.

So, what if the meshes in the model packs weren't created by Monster but "borrowed"? If this is the way he usually proceeds, can some tell he created them for sure?

Let's be fair, not all of his products should be "put in the same bag" for this practice. For instance, DBP plug-ins he offer, which are impressive and handy -like the one related to animation blending and so on.

in my opinion...

monster released that dog model to make up for the bad rep that spread around the forums after he "borrowed" merranvos jetpack script and merranvos menu creation idea.

and the fact that he didnt say it was or wasnt his kindof bugs me.

he didnt say it was his: so some people will be on his side because technically, he didnt do anything wrong, but like madhouse said, ethics is another issue...and monster has been known to play dirty to get some cash...

so based on the previous happenings, i dont think it was for the good of the fpsc community, i think he just wanted more people on his site...

i just lost a big old post ...

oh well...

what i wanted to say was that based on monsters previous doings, i think he didnt mention anything because he wanted to clean up his rep from the jetpack incedent...

and he wanted more people to visit his site, hence buy his stuff...

Your missing the point...he lead everyone to believe it was his by A) putting it on his site as he puts his model packs and B) changing the README.TEXT.

I guess we agree to disagree. Fact is I am a business man and if I did this and was CAUGHT and said, "Hey..no one said I couldn't" ..I would be outta business.

I am all done now. I can go back to smelling the roses in my half full glass.

Monster never said he made it. He surely implied that it was his. But by doing so, and with his background and with the stuff he has for sale, that would make some people think if his goods are his.

I like you mate. I really do, but you are a bit stuborn with legal matters.

Once upon the time, while I was in the army, a sergeant told me "Why are you convinced that you are right when everyone is marching with the other leg ahead."

In this case, you are right, but we are all marching at a different parade.

Legally, you are right, he never did anything wrong. I'm 100% with you on this.

But everyone is talking about ethics. Defending common sense and decency with the law is like making a man to man mark with basketball players in a golf tournament.

We are just speaking different subjects here.

Cheers.

From past track record this guy ain't so innocent. But looking at it from him doing a nice thing then I would say he is innocent. Maybe we did jump the gun. Maybe he just shoulda put in a credit. Who knows. Heck..I may use the dang dog. Ruff life.
