i dont get it, y does the dark basic company still sell DBL?
all it is, is a expensive demo.
or will they ever make DBL available to create .exe files?

Sure, it's limited, but you can become familiar with DB and decide what you really want to buy without the limit on number of objects and such. I'd rather spend $15 to give it a good try with DBLite, then spend $100 on DBPro and find out that it's just not what I'm looking for. Besides, it would seem that DB Pro has some issues that are still being worked out. From what I've read, DB seems to be a lot more stable and probably better for someone who wants to learn DB without having the nagging question of "is my problem a coding error on my part or some glitch in DBPro that hasn't been fixed yet". I want to program... but I don't really feel like paying money to help debug a piece of software.

I'm new to DB... so my logic is probably flawed. I want this experience to be fun, and *inexpensive* for now.

ya i know what u mean
but still if some1 created something really good in DBL and it wasnt compatible with pro, then that program could never be used to any1 without DBL, so u couldnt sell it or anything.

Fortunately, I think the DBLite commands are a subset of DarkBasic v1.13, which are in turn a subset of DB v1.13 "enhanced", which are in turn a subset of DBPro. For the most part anyways. I doubt you'll have any problem of a command that exists in DBLite that doesn't exist in DBPro. The main thing I've found comparing the commands between versions is that there's definitely easier ways to do some things in DBPro, but the "hard way" would still work - just more code.

If I really thought I could "sell" something that I was making in DBLite, I'd eventually just buy the "DarkBasic + DarkMatter" combo and get the whole deal. Or maybe I'd even spring for DBPro.

That reminds me of a question: Does DBPro come with any of the models and textures like DB does? Does DBPro come with any example level files or any example files in all of the new formats it supports (audio, video, model files, etc.)?

I wonder if I can upgrade directly from DBLite to DBPro for the $85... it doesn't say DBLite doesn't qualify... just that you need to have purchased DBv1 from DBS and have the order on file, etc.,...

Thanks,

Ed

DB Lite is identical to DB from a commands point of view.

The limitations are no EXE saving, no upgrade path (other than to DBV1) and you can't install the Enhancement Pack. That's it. Not really a "glorified demo version" at all!
