Hi

[edit] I have changed the idea of this thread, so instead of what is written above just post images of your gun models and maybe a few lines on how you made it and what programs were used.[edit/]

[not main topic]I am currently working on a game at the moment(Fps) and wanted to know where I could get hold of some gun models including the arms/hands (free to download and royalty free). Alternitavly just the arms would do.

You see I am not a modeler by trade but will be learning to model a few cutscenes in the near future. And I would like to try to cut down some of the work by just getting a small amount of models ready made. This way it gives me more time on some cinematics.[not main topic/]

Thanks for any help

@DB Newbe:

It'd be a good idea for you to start on a model, really stick to it. And then after it's made, make a few more of that type of model(ie guns, people, crates) and release it as a package. That's always a good way to get some respect.

I don't like guns....so if you model one I'll shoot you Its a bit early in my opinion to model for someone yet, never have I seen someone try to model for someone that early, I know you're ambitious, but ambition can get in the way of things, I was too ambitious in my second poem for English coursework, it lacked rythmn and the phonetics were out, and I had to use my first poem. See my point, and the point others have tried, sorry if it sounds like we've ganged up on you dude.

Well its a good start, good first model, but please don't post in other peoples threads, I know other forums tend not to mind that, but its unrelated to Big Man's topic, so try not to do it again dude

While awating my Key for my animation tool, i decided to make you a gun . I know i am basically a newb at this so its okay if you dont want it. Atleast ill get better . Im not done texturing it, and i basically stole the textures from random images at google.

@Zedane I will admit that the model is a bit boxy but atleast you have got the proportions correct so for a relative newb its pretty good.

As I said it was reasonable but try adding a more detailed texture that would help a lot.

Sure thing, the texture you see there is just the background for the gun. If you could specify a color scheme it would help a lot. Ill try and repost today with a more detailed model. I not exactly a modeller (just a programmer trying to learn so i dont have to rely on others for my next project), so sorry if my models really suck.

I'm sorry if I said it wrong but I wasn't intending to use your models I already have good gun models just without any arms. I was just giving you feed back on your model.

But if you want my advice make the gun the same sort of colour but a more detailed texture would make it look good.

sorry

and maybe add a gun site (you know the two spikes at the end of the gun near the handle) That would look cool.

Use Wings bevel feature on some of the edges you want more curved, much lower polys than smoothing, but still gives a more rounded look.

Thanks for pointing that out, it will not be there for the FPS arm but is needed to connect the arm to the chest of a RPG character..The face(s) at that point where moved out of proportion to allow me to work with the back view...

looks like milkshape to me... milkshape can do pretty decent non-organic models...it's about the textures in milkshape..

@Big man: That's what I have so far, I'm working on materials first and then I'm gonna toy with the proportions and try to slim the handle without distorting the trigger, unlikely but worst comes to worst I have to start over. Tell me what ya think.

Hi Insanity complex

Right first of all it is a great start on a gun model.
But There is a weird cone thingy going on at the muzzle of the gun, I think you have the right idea adding the tube and the very tip but where it cones into the tube it looks weird.
As you said some of the proportions are wrong but the only one I can see is the handle but you mentioned slimming it(oh and I reckon you should make it shorter)

Thats all I can say about it.

Give you a tip

Stick to one thing and don't make a ton of posts also i wouldn't edit posts if you get something wrong it just wastes people bandwidth

I feel belittled just a tad, but coming from DB Newbe I take no notice, and no offence.

@Big Man:
It's a start, and the thing about the end of the barrel has already been fixed, I've been playing with renders mostly though. Trying to tweak the Yafray properties of the main material so it looks like metal, no luck yet. Getting there.

@DB Newbe:
If you're referring to the sniper model you made it wasnt as good as you claim, but it's getting there. You just need to slow down and take it one step at a time. Stop trying to impress people here, and stop asking so many questions about modelers and such, it doesnt work very well, as many have said, its the person not the modeler that makes great models. And there is no such thing as a fantastic, yet easy, model. It is very skill based and there is nothing you can do to speed the process for instant success...

It's not finished, yet. I have to change and add somethings.

I have decided that I will wait until I have finished laying down the main game engine (Which is so very nearly complete I think it will be finished by the end of the week) It is quite a complex game.
Before I go on to ask for some models, I have acknowlaged that this type of thread was too early to be posted.

But by all means keep showing off your gun models and maybe write a few lines on how you went about making them to give some other members an ideaz of how to make their own(And so I can get a few pointers to maybe try my own)
