Hi all,

You can now test the edit feature. As far as I can tell it works fine with the appropriate checking/limitations, etc. I've made it so that all posts you edit are copied to a message_archive and I'll probably add in a "view edited versions of this message" link somewhere when I've got time, for now though I want to finish the forum search.

Please test it out and report back with problems (erm, testing!)

It carries it. Although I reckon it doesn't if you don't have a signature set (debugging aloud here). For me it carries the text fine, I'll remove my signature and test it.

It was because you used the .co.uk domain and not the .com one. If you use .com you get no errors. I've fixed this now anyway but be warned the cookie given at login persists for the .com domain, so you'll most likely appear to be "logged out" if you come in via .co.uk.

This all changes soon so I'm not too concerned about it atm.

I'm using IE 6.0 and the damn thing still wont let me edit grrrrr (swears at IE using several colorful discriptions of body parts).

I also get the same error when I click anywhere within the edit box (swears at IE using several discriptions of kitchen appliances).

Ah well, I'll just have to be careful what I type.

Easily - over 90% of the visitors here are using IE6, so whatever it is it's nothing to do with that.

Easily Confused is correct. Most people have script debugging turned off and won't see error. I have it on to test websites I write for work.

An error shows when you click in edit box because the javascript function for 'storeCaret' has been commented out!

Please fix!

Sonic - I have it turned on, there is no JS error in IE6 on this XP Pro machine. View the source a bit more carefully and you'll see the storeCaret function is NOT commented out.

Even if it was, it still wouldn't stop the edit page working.

Now what are you up to? I'm now getting a similar error when trying to post to this forum, line 845 this time. I'm forced to use notepad to type this and then cut and paste.

If it helps to debug this problem, I'm using IE 6.0 in windows 98se.

Same as Easily confused, now get error or normal post page!

Appears to be because you have just changed javascript to be all on same line BUT there is a comment half way along about 'By Martyn Pittuck'. IE6 does not like this!

It also means none of the special buttons work (code, href).

Please put javascript back multiline on normal AND edit mode and all problems will be solved!

The line "storeCaret(this)" appears to be causing the error. Are you using the SP1 version of IE 6.0 Rich?

My IE version is: 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp1.020828-1920IC

The error message is "Object Expected at line 1048" - which I presume means that it is not accepting "this" as an argument?

Okay! I have made some serious updates here. The JavaScript was removed entirely and replaced, enhanced and made a lot more stable. A few new buttons are added, some cosmetic changes and generally it should no longer be IE only (and more importantly should stop the previous script error for whoever had it).

rich, not bad - nearly there!

Still a small problem, but only with the bold, underline and italic buttons.

Tested in IE6 and Netscape 6.2 and they either throw a script error about document.ApolloForm.b or u or i or the buttons don't appear to do anything!

They do work sometimes though (I think in edit post mode)

All the other buttons work perfectly as far as I can tell.

Sorry to be a nuisance but better to fix it whilst it's still in your head!!

Just moving the mouse over the top row of buttons and "close all tags" produces an error (line 1289), and clicking a smilie will also produce an error (line 0 ???)
