I just need simple anwsers here. Ok, I just want to know what is the best ide/compiler to use here. I dont want to spend days setting it up. I have microsoft c++ 6.0. What is visual studio 2005 all about and is there a version with just C++ or do you have to buy the whole deal.

you need either MS VisualStudio 6 or 7 (= 2003 .NET)

I am not sure whether it works with the standalone c++ 6.0 compiler. You will definitely have to get the standard windows libraries!
