Sinistar,

Just bought Magic FPS and downloaded it without any problems, but when I run the program there are no buttons in the center area as the picture shows in the help file. No Save or anything. Also couldn't find any way to quit the program except to close the process.

Other than that, looks really good. Only other thing I might mention is that if you're building something and click on anything else (box, cylinder, etc.) it switches to that item and seems to remove your current work without asking if it's okay.

It still saves the textures, but the scaling or whatever is lost when you switch.
Also the buttons appear and dessappear depending on which thing you're working on. If you click on Room, then your inside/outside texture buttons appear.

I has: Thanks, looks good.

Thanks Sinistar, got your email. It's a nice looking program, I would think people would be jumping at the chance to get this. Have to play with more after a good night's sleep. Good work...

Lots of people are asking about a demo so I'll put one up soon. I've been too busy working or easily distracted by small fun projects like taking the spaceships from the Star Wars pack and making them single models...

Also I made a car drive around my city level with waypoints.

I can tell you Magic FPS instructions for it...

If you load one of those darkmatter cars, you have to rotate it 180 degrees to face the right way (opposite from how it starts) , then import it with settings of not static or immovable (it needs to be sized correctly of course) and don't forget to take a picture of it with the camera button.

In FPSC set up your road or flat surface for the car. Set up a loop of waypoints (see "waypoints" in the fpsc manual it's pretty easy) and set your car on the first one or somewhere on the loop.

right click on the car to edit its properties. Select "appear-nogravity" for its initial script. For some reason this works better for me. turn off physics for the car and select "people/follow" for the main script.

The car should drive along your path.

Not bad, now if you mount a weapon on the vehicle and use part of the NPC AI script to shoot at the player as it travels the route (when the player is in range) you have a very annoying distraction added to your level.

Maybe instead of a land vehicle make it a chopper. A train with a box car you can actually jump on. Funny how every new idea spawns a hundred more...

Well you can jump on the car. I discovered whilest tootling around town on my waypoint car that yes, in fact, rail shooters are quite possible in FPSC!

Sinister, does anything have watermarks on them? And do your pre-made models that come with Magic FPS have something that is on it so its not as good quiality cause you made it? And also if you make something for Magic fps is somthing included into the model were it may not be what it looked like whne you made it (for example: you make a wall...then you import it to FPSC and then the wall has something that may stand out that you never included in it?)

A) transparent specs are where there is true black. If you have a paint program up the brightness of the texture by a bit and re-make the segment/entity. It's not MFPS, any texture with true black will come out transparent.

B) There is nothing special about things made in MFPS. They look like any other segments/objects. The quality/scale whatever is limmited only to the quality of your imported textures. There's really no way to tell from a finished game that anything in it was made in MFPS (unless you dig into the files maybe) but I didn't put a watermark or anything like that. I'm far too lazy for that kind of thing.

c) No decals yet. I haven't quite figured them out.

D How did I make it? Vb6 and DB Pro.

Woah! You made that with VB!? Assuming you imbedded the DBP window in MFPS, HOW did you do it? I've been wanting to do it for a while now with Weapon Creator.

DarkBasic Pro can be purchased from The Game Creators. If you go to the top and left click where it says The Game Creators in the top left corner it should take you to where you can find it.
There is a demo you can try out before you buy it.

@ PS Studios

For VB just download Visual Basic express from the microsoft website. I'ts free untill nov 2006, when thay take it down. But, you can still use your personal copy, even after nov 2006.

blooddeath see pic..

The interface and 3d is in db pro and the file management is in vb6. They seem to get along without much fighting.

VBExpress and VB6 are similar but arent the same. VB6 code in the express edition won't work.
Quote: "But, you can still use your personal copy, even after nov 2006."

It might expire on that date, ceasing usage. They usually do that with free things, such as their antispyware. That way you get to be their guinepigs and test it out, and then once it's perfected, they charge a million dollars for it and you're left in the dust.

It's true. Then sagebrush blows by and the vultures begin circling overhead.

However, with vb express you can probably do the relatively simple things MFPS is doing on its vb side. There are plenty of dlls you can get free from the DB pro forum that allow you to have save/load dialogs, etc. I just like the way vb handles files, so I used it, but you could easily write everything in MFPS in purely DB Pro if you have some skills and, lots of time and a desire to make things easier for FPS developers.

So you do command line interfacing?

nope, not according to microsoft.

Bingo, code masta. I can also do direct memory interfacing via memblocks, but it wasn't necessary for this application.

double Woah! that's exactly what I've been trying to figure out. Memblocks you say? some other guy did it with Memory mapped files, but that requires an expansion. Any chance you'd show me how it's done?

VB6 is a programing lanuage. The syntax is sorta like DBP. Though, no 3D stuff without API's.

VB6 is Visual Basic Version 6, the VB series is generally used for protyping Windows programs, but its quick production setup makes it popular for other usages

I believe it's in the top 3 most widely used languages in the world for programming. Great for windows applications. Not so widely used for games, but there are lots of 3d engines made for it. In my opinion, DB Pro is better for games for the $$ than any vb dev kit I've seen.
