Greetings. I am working on a new Real Time Strategy game called Rise to Power. I will have a website for it up in a week or two but here are some quick features you can expect:

- The map is 'round' so if you send your troops to one side they will come back on the other, just like real life. (the mini-map is represented by a rotating earth)
- There are 3 ages. World War I, World War II, and Modern
- The UI graphics are astonishing. (I can't reveal what I have for them yet)
- Units can cope with the environment. So if its raining the troops will be less ready to attack or defend and they will automatically hide behind trees when under heavy fire.
- I can't tell you about graphics because I am not very good at modelling. I need a modeller.
- With the games main campaign you are the hero and you must give morale to your troops while commanding them what to do in some scenarios. Your hero can get stronger by being in the front lines, and get smarter strategy wize and get more strategies available if he stays back and commands troops more often.

Those are a few features the game will include. A website will be up soon. x-d

Any other features you would like to see?

I dont know if your planning this, but make the weapons' power realistic, i.e not as in C & C (which is btw very cool) but when troops get caught in an explosion they die, etc, and troops can shoot their own pals by accident.

Whatever I did I didn't do it!

yeah and that some of your military units throw a grenade in their own tents and that they shoot down their own helicopters... that should be realistic (for in Modern age mode)

Rise to Power... sounds like a mix between Civilisation: Call to Power and Age of Empires: Rise of Rome

The UI graphics are astonishing... you're making high expectations by saying this, that might turn in your disadvantage, but it makes me curious. Why can't you reveal anything?

I wonder how your ideas will be visualised and how the gameplay will be... I can't really give any sugestions as I don't know which type of game it will be...

x-d Yes that would be preaty realistic + main goal of the player should be to establish democracy in every small country he runs accros and setting its inhabitants "free" doesnt mather if they living in dictatorship, democrasi, monarchi, if they muslim or hindu and most important if they like it or not

And yea dont forget to let them "use theyr natural resources for they own goodnes" after
.....after you will destroy theyr economy, bridges and hospitals...afther you will bombard them back to middle age.

that would be very modern and generous

The main goal in RTP is realism. And I will give everyone a preview of the UI very soon in a few hours when I get a good start on the website. I must say it makes the Gameplay a lot easier how everything is placed.

The game is a mix of Civilization, Empire Earth, Battlefield 1942 (yes an FPS : ) and Stragetic Command.

I can tell you this about the game too. If you don't want to be a big military leader, fine, rule the world in diplomacy, trade, or a leader in new technology. This RTS acts like an RPG. So if you spend some time in one field you get better at that, soilders have 'experience' and 'readiness', while a normal building, can end up to be a wonder that can be a huge leap in your economy. Yep. If a building is old enough and has served a a BIG role in the game it becomes a wonder and you gain extra money for having it even longer.

So far the game is at the 'just starting stage' where I am building the main core of the games works, so this game might be ready for Q3, 2004. It all depends on how many people I can get to work on the game. I got 1 modeller so far. I am going to try to make this game work on a P3 at 800 Mhz, 128 RAM, 16 MB graphics card, so you can expect good graphics.

Right now I am doing it in DB just to get a quick idea on what the game will be like, then I will remake it in C once I got the basis down on it. What I mean by good graphics is something like Age of Mythology. Even though you may say its impossible with DB, but it is very possible. All the little details for graphics are being added in. So if you look near the grass, you might just see some butterflies flying around, and small bodies of water which has no action at all as of people/army the water will start to produce flies, and if there is a small battle going on there after flies appear, the closer you are to the flies the less ready your troops are and the more damage they take during the battle. Fish move around, and the fishermen will follow it, but if it goes to store some and the fish had moved they will take a quick look around the area, then if they don't find anything you gotta find the fish for them. Thats why you would need to build 'fishing stations' all over the place so the fishermen can keep track of fish, even though the fish will move rather slow.

I am just telling all you the concept of what I want to put into this game. Most of it will be in the game, but some of it won't. I might just do it in DB and not switch to C. I can add in all the little details because I can take my time to add them all in. There is no rush to it and if I take my time I might even be able to make the game even better. If you think about it the RTS genre is close to dying. I am going to try to keep it on its feet for a while longer by adding in features never before seen in the RTS genre, and even in gaming. This game is kinda starting out how Ensemble Studios made Age of Empires 1. They were just friends wanting to make a game, were just learning to program to make games, then MS approached them after the game had a good start and wanted to publish it.

Hmm... you set high goals for yourself, nice ideas.

Well I wish you good luck and lot of patience, coze you will need it. Its easy to create nice game concept with all those things you were missing in games you were playng till now. But every one of most simplest things inside are going to take a lot of time and work to make real

Hope you will finish half of them

...I am saing that without any irony, I would for sure like to see game like that...
