Anyone know of any good 3d modeling programs that will give good results for a space simulation game?

Thank you for your time.

one other thing.

Is milkshape a royalty free software, or do you have to pay a certain amount to the company before you sell your title.

Once you have registered Milkshape... you can produce anything ya like, and do what you want with it ( sell your models - use them in commercial games - give them away etc etc etc )

@Brent_Seraphim ..... yeah !! me and Raven have already had this fight !! go check out my website ( still under construction, so just the Projects and Downloads pages are working )

Yes Milkshape is completely royalty free...Unlike Max(which makes me wonder HTH people can afford to pay 10000 per title for it and still use MS???)

*Also looking for the rolling eyes smiley*

Anyways...

-Milkshape is even better! thanks rpg and simple

BZZZT...Very wrong, none is better since both modelers have very different functions and yes,I am an Wings3D preacher.

Wings3D is a box-modeler and along with it's realtime meshsmooth options and edges/sub-object tools makes it an excellent choice for high detailed models, which is achievable in MS but with a rather longer time PLUS MS calculates it's shading based on triangles, which is very bad for higher polygon modeling if not useless. Now although it can augment it's polycount using it's 'edge smoothing',the tesselation isn't well organised because of those triangles and I never bothered trying to find the right way around or adding manually the detail(real pain),which you basically wouldn't have to do with a modeler made for that purpose, but I think you get the point now right?

Don't go around thinking I don't use MS myself though, just needed to point out that the specificities of some modelers aren't always what the crowd will tell you...If you still need convincing maybe you can have a look at the official website's gallery

Thanks for the input actarus.

I myself have just recently tried both wings 3d and milkshape.

Both in my opionion are very easy to use.Wings 3D takes me about 5-10minutes to make a nice spaceship model.

milkshape takes me a little longer, BUT milkshape has an animation feature which might be the big reason to buy.Plus it's royalty free!

I'm not sure if wings 3d is royalty free, yet I suggest either milkshape or wings3d to anyone else who is reading this.

Thanks to all the people who posted ahead, my questions have been anwsered.

Milkshape has a really long way to go. That's probably why Max is so expensive, that and it has a lot more functions and it can render fully. Anyone know how Discreet would know that it's a Max model your selling?

lol...Personally,I'd kill to work in the industry so I'd comply to max quite pacifically

Still,Maya(well PLE at least) is the cream while Max is the hardened butter

you tried the poly modelling in Maya yet Actarus?
christ what i wouldn't give to have that in Max ... but unfortunatly you have to work with splines on the same method flicking between a surface and edit spline, quite annoying way to go about it.

Of course I tried it and it's wonderful

I even ended up learning a few useful new tricks...I guess that's Maya's freedom
