Hey, we have changed our story, and to accomodate with that, I have made a new island village. The buildings arent textured, but oh well They will be! This will be the island featured in the Tech Demo. Includeding the following....

-Full Sliding Collision
-Item Shop
-Inn
-Weapon Shop
-Armor Shop
-Menu System
-Dialog System
-Character Interaction
-More......

Hope you like

Shot 1:

Shot 2:

We are running at about 40 FPS (those shots are a little off) which is surely to increase with Pro

What do you think? I hope you like

Enjoy!

Hmm, the seams look a little off, but it's still a nice texture!

Anyway, the screenshots look good - one of the few good looking matrices I've seen! Shadows for the buildings would be nice; but DBPro has native support for that, doesn't it?

Looking forward to the demo!

Nice going! But you might want to add a closer horizon or more fog, because you can clearly see the end of the map. And as Dr Doomer said, the textures of your model are a bit off. But besides that. I like it. Keep on going.

Hey,

Dont worry- the skysphere texture isnt a permanent one. I just slapped that one on there for some shots. Ill add in all the lighting and crap later. I have JUST got collision working, so now we just need it on all the buildings. That wont be hard though

After I finish that, Ill just set up a few UVs and while they are being textured, I can work on some fogging or maybe a shop or two Hmmm, I am thinking about adding in some seaguls as well

Thanks guys

Seaguls. Nice touch. We cud have a mini game. Shoot the seaguls. Or dodge the seagul crap. hehe .

I am glad that we found a 2d artist who can output graphics like that. They will be most useful. Note that now our project has a concept artist. So any pictures that he develops will be posted on the ED website and probably some of them on this forum.

Yeah, very nice. Does the collision work at any angle? I've been trying to develop a system that does that well for ages.

Yes I just finished collision, and it works at all angles (except on that darn well, its still a box, but whatever) So that is done, and we are still working on,,,, everything. I just send Mnemonix my tech demo (not finished calm down) of the collision and island and everything. He will probably post here about it.

Cheers!

I'm told the eye can't see anything past 25 fps, and in fact PAL video format is 25 fps. So 40 fps is great.

Good work!

:-s 40 FPS , well i see just 31-32 in the pics .

And there isnt even much polygones in the screenshots , terrain - sky - houses -water .
And it give you 32 FPS ?

Well , what will it give you then when you add atmosphere (rain , snow , whateven ) and more houses are needed as well as more textures (Street etc) , it need some trees wich should NOT be 2d but 3d !

How much FPS would it give you ? -20 ? :-s

i didnt read all the post , could you tell me with wich version are you making it.
With pro or classic ?

Spag: Thanks- nice little piece of info!

Yellow: Yep

Yellow: I use mat edit and blended the textures with vanseam. The water is a couple of matrices one ghosted and one not. I am going to make a wave agrothim.

Ex: Well, these screens were posted BEFORE I could really toggle with the engine much. Since these screenshots I have added textures, collision and atmospheric effects and havent lost any FPS (still running 38-40) I am making this with classic, but hopefully ordering pro today.

Thanks

That about eyes not seeing past 25fps. I think its something like 21. I did know the exact figure from college but ill have to get back to you on that.

For the whole project we are expecting to get 30-40fps

im going to be using memory saving methods in my dungeon editor so we may be able to get 45-60 fps in the huge dungeons. .

O my dialogue editor has almost been finished so i can work on the dungeon editor soon

Trust me you can notice when the framerate is 30 or 60 on certain games. Once things start moving real fast you can see the differance. Since this is an RPG though, 30 fps should be fine. Racing and fighting games need to 60 fps, but games were split second reflexes aren't needed, 30 is good. It's not the eye that can deal with fps, it's the brain. The eye takes a steady feed of info, the mind sorts it out. Tecinquly you can see 4000 fps, but your brain would be running in the red.

Why does this forum not have an edit button

he should be getting 200 FPS in order to add more things .
once he add in his scene trees (land-scapes need much trees) and rain + houses + some animals around + some streets + a sun effect + clouds(2d) + more details and to run his application with todays graphics 1152*1750 + .. then it will run at -100 FPS

DBC has a fps limiter it'll never go higher than 100fps. When they switch to DBP they'll notice a massive increase in fps
