a gamepad is accessed using the joystick commands... if you're using a gamepad which is using a USB connector you can access it using the HID commands

it can be a little confusing at first as it doesn't mention this in the help (^_^)

Uh, yeah. But how am I gonna find out how to use it? I don't HID commands. I have a Microsoft Sidewinder Plug&Play that uses USB. I really don't like using the keyboard for my games, so could you just give me the basic code?

HID - Human Interface Devices, is a way of directly grabbing the data from USB devices attached to the computer through DirectX Hardware Adapter Layers

basically it a direct route to any controllers which tend not to natively use DirectInput and allow you to access them as Joysticks.
This is all within the help files - F1 will bring them up and i'd suggest you check the command lists and examples.
