i'vi tried to export my character animation (animated/created with 3dsmax4.2 with the use of bones for the animation controll) to a .3ds but there is a problem. the bones get exported as meshes and there is no animation at all. i also exported another model with a simple animation without bones and that worked out great.
so is it a problem with the bones? or how can i export the model + animations to a db compatible file without being unable to use bones.
I would prefer the model and the texture map to be exported seperately (texture map as jpg or something like that) so i keep the ability to make changes to the textures without having to reexport every animation sequence.

i hope you guys can help me out.

I'm afraid that the 3ds modifiers are not exported to 3ds file format.
It would be great if it would be so!

.3ds format doesn't support your bone structure. you need to export your single mesh model with bones to DirectX .x format. And even then it won't work with DBclassic .... only DBpro.

To export your model with animations from 3dsMax 4.2 as .3ds format,it needs to be a limbed model with pivot points and a link hierarchy for it to work with DBcalssic

we are working with dbpro so that is not a problem.
does 3dsmax have a standard plugin that is able to export to .x? or does dbpro have it included?

I think you can get a Max plug-in for DirectX export... don't ask me where though, cos I don't know.

There're also a few Md* exporters for max/gmax.
