hey guys

i havnt got much work up for the past days, i was quite busy, and i had my prom on thursday, and the afterparty...got a bit drunk and was sick everywhere, so i didnt get anything done the day after, was a bit "tired"

well just before the prom, i finished modelling the M4A1 for volume 2, you may be asking yourself, what a waste of time, there is already an M4A1 or "commando" that comes with the stock package, personally i dont like the way that gun was laid out in the first person perspective of FPSC and looks too "cartoony" which would then mean the rest of my modern guns wont fit in with the other modern weapons, mine being more grungey and "real world"

but i couldnt do the EXACT design, because that would be a COMPLETE waste of time, so i decided to make the ultimate variation of the gun, nicknamed (from a site, cant remember which) "Eliminator M4A1"

the eliminator M4A1 includes the following:

- Red dot Scope (without the sight handle thank god)
- Laser Sight
- Quad Rail
- Tactical Light
- Silencer
- Ris M203 Grenade launcher (thats gonna be fun ingame! )

just to make it that little bit special

and with hands (pretty long with the silncer, can hardly fit in the render window! )

^^
those shots are all ambient shots to show the texture (ive gone off advanced rendering for a while)

hope ya like! tell me what you think, i thought it would be a whopper in the polycount, what with its features and all, but it came out well, not too shabby

lol, thanks, well counter strike is pretty outdated now, except source, but the source weapons are way better than mine

i gotta say i think im better at weapon modelling, seems to be alot better than my character design, maybe because i have more reference when it comes to weapons...hmm

thanks Fredrick

@ liz

i use adobe photoshop, im running version 7, i wouldnt mind the switch to CS2 later on, ive tried the trial and i like some of the new features, including the "smart objects"

its not a dedicated texturing program like "texture maker" but it is probably the best image editing software in the world, it takes some time to learn, but is worth it

thanks

everything isnt made from filters, only if i need custom clean base textures, i used a fabric texture for the gloves and laid out the shadows and curves of the fingers and such

Very Nice, You must have a either huge library of firearm references or a huge arsenal to see such exact detail.Either way Much respect goes to you my friend.

{mod edit}why would you talk about piracy on a forum where programmers frequently visit?{/mod edit}

aside from that, Great Model! although i have one slight recomendation... could you make a version without the scope on it? it wouldn't require too much work, and would greatly increase my chances of buying this pack, (which are alreday pretty good by the way...)

thanks, i have always been interested in modern weapons and their designs, the counterstrike weapons show the most popular "choices" of todays firearms, great game.

i want to create some fantasy weapons aswell, sepcifically for the detials, and stuff like tribal designs, which are really inspirational

Quote: "Very Nice, You must have a either huge library of firearm references or a huge arsenal to see such exact detail.Either way Much respect goes to you my friend."

thanks, most of the images of firearms on the internet are side views to show the best perspective of the weapon, so luckily enough, there are hundreds of reference pictures, whereas in character design, reference can often be posed, or very easily at an annoying angle, thanks for the respect, you too, your creeps and freaks pack has come along nicely

Quote: "[mod edit]Zaibatsu's post removed[/mod edit] "

no thank you, it seems to me you are talking about pirated software

i suppose an unscoped version is possible, but i doubt it will have the same feel, what with the custom variations, and the fact there is no handle on the top as standard leaves nothing to aim with, so it would look quite daft

Really nice model! It always amazes me how much people around here seem to know so much about guns.

That's why I heven't even attempted to model weapons, I'm not convinced I even know what a "stock" is...much less getting the reload animations right.

So kudos to you!

Jon. Its simple. I hate you.
I was up until 4am modelling an M83, and I wake up to find you've made this.
*sob*

Not really dude, it's a wicked model. Hope the reload animations are cool, (should be v.tasty with bone animation arms!)

In screeny one on the side of the gun I can see the fire selector switch and the casing chamber (where the bullet casings come out),
but it appears they are on the reverse side too. I know it's a tiny detail, but I really like the folding chamber thing on the reverse side of the M4. Still, gorgeous texture work.

Can I ask, please, what "not too shabby" rolls in at? From the screenies, I'd have thought it'd be a monster poly-wise also.

Awesome work! you continue to amaze me. What you should really do for the pack (if u already r, then gr8!) is make a copy or whatever of the guns without the arms and assign the armless ones to enemies. Although that may be hard what with the reload animation. Well, woteva works!
BTW: You should release a demo video. Or even a demo! You could have like, one gun with just the one arm texture to get us hooked.
BTW-again: whats up with that piracy thing?

You don't have to be insane to answer my questions, but it helps

Great job jon, but if I may say so, I think it has to much Extra stuff (both scope, laser sight, flashlight, and a grenade laucher?)
If you ask me, lose the scope. and the light.

I like it Jon, good job. I dont agree with essal, I think all the extra stuff on it makes it a mans gun.

By the way, what do you use when you rig the hands; do you use Skin or Physique? I ask because when I rigged my hands using Skin, the finger next to the thumb gets draged with it.

woh, lots of replies, right here i go...

Quote: "i know like 143 thing are in there!!! is adobe hard to use like to make your kinds of textures?"

Photoshop is basically the "do anything to an image" program, built for every single form of making an image, so it takes a while to learn the tools and how they can actually help with what your doing (i.e. textures) but once you get the hang of the tools, you'll be very fluent with it, most of the time when im making textures its basically a reflex when i switch to another tool and the intensity, size etc. so once you become familiar it will be easy.

Quote: "youve been noob slapped for 3 days for talking about piracy. Youve been on the forum for a while, and you should know better."

hah, OWNED!

i guess its my personality really (im not an evil guy, or in love with guns) but i have always been interested in the concept of war and politics, mostly iraq, i find war to be serious and something that should be paid attention to. Also when growing up i guess i was one of those kids who like "playing army" gradually observing weapons and buying the occasional bb gun, lol

Quote: "Great work again, Jon. I've got some major catching up to do.

thanks Keith, i might also go for the camo version, with the "yellow dirt" look, though ive always prefered the look of the black version

yeh, was just a mirror to see the gun on that side, i might have another look at it.

thanks 4am eh? so i see im not the only one, lol, ah the m83 is pretty cool, i was thinking about that handle under the rail, but a m203 seemed the way to go

Quote: "Can I ask, please, what "not too shabby" rolls in at? From the screenies, I'd have thought it'd be a monster poly-wise also."

thanks, only about 900 polygons! though im sure the tri-count is way more, but thats pretty good

Quote: "That is awesome, Jon! Excellent work again, man!"

cheers! im glad you like, next up is the SPAZ shotgun

i dont agree, although i value your opinion, i think that the etra variations make it something much greater in a game, more unique, alot of games tend to have the "default style" and forgive me if im wrong but if your fighting something, im sure you would want the best tactics, but some prefer classic i guess

Quote: "I like it Jon, good job. I dont agree with essal, I think all the extra stuff on it makes it a mans gun.

thanks, yeh, i suppose the extras do make it stand out better from the "commando" as more of a threat to humanity lol

i used bones to rig the hands, and then using the skin modifier, then editing the envelopes to include the vertices needed for that bone, there is some stretching of other fingers, but only when you get too far you actually really notice it, im thinking about switching to a biped hand, and the physique modifier, as of now 'skin' is pretty darn annoying

I thought Skin was quite good when I used it about 2 weeks ago; but its no way as good as physique. I think I used skin because I was being lazy.

I could email you a site for animating with bones if you like Jon, but I also posted about it here.

I think rigging with bones is quite easy, but I never knew how to before I watched the rigging tutorials from the site ill send you.

before you all get in a huff over this piracy thing, It's me! It's my friend Hank! he doesn't have too high of morals so he thinks it's all right. I don't accept any software from him, because i don't know where he got it, and if he's telling the truth. I said if he really wanted it he could have it, becuase i don't know how high his morals are. I hae migh enough morals not to accept pirated software, but alot of people don't. I was just stating the facts and his options...

pallmanni, i didnt upload that video, but i'll have a look for the next episode if thats the truth, though as of now its not serious issue

My favorite gun from you yet Jon. I prefer the texturing here being much clearer and less of the grunge/dodge tool/whatever. The textures are very crisp and well done. I never know any of the models of guns anyone post as..well...I don't really care. All I know is what looks right, and it's well modeled and textured.

Good job

That movie was great! I rented it last month after seeing it on TV! they have it on sale at a Wal-Mart near me for $7.50!!! and what makes you think i have multiple personalities? And Jon, you said it was possible, but are you going to make an unscoped version? I have alot of wierd friends... Hank sells or gives away pirated software, Joe kisses trees, Clayton screams about 55% od his sentances, Brad thinks its possible to beat survival mode on Crimsonland (Survival mode is where an unlimited amount of enemies rush at you and you see how long you can last), Will can eat a whole large pizza from Costco and he's not fat in the slightest, Hank's dad own a brewery and Hank and a partner own a bar so Hank gets the shipments at half off (I think he drinks about half of the shipment), I have no social life of any kind outside of wierd friens and I hanging out at 7-11 for hours at a time (trying to see how badly we can piss off the clerks untill they curse at us infront of children(it doesn't take long))

Either you didnt see my post or your ignoring it

I'll say it again, how are you going to get the grenade launcher to fire? I'd advise creating two seperate guns, one fires normal bullets. One with the nade launcher.

certainly, and that is what i am going to do, and its not unprofessional because technically they are both seperate weapons, youd have to be crazed to shoot grenades whilst draining rounds at the same time

Quote: "Excellent work Jon. Did you create your textres from scratch or use parts of other images because that sure looks impressive"

only very specific parts that have to look identical, otherwise, ive had alot of experience generating metal base textures and are easy to work with what with specular and gun curves easy to brush

Zaibatsu, whats with the life story you have some strange friends yes, but i doubt anyone wants to hear about them

thanks for the comments
