Now that TGC is working on updating the engine to match the new DBP version 6.2 it will also be nice if we could have access the new expansion pack like Dark A.I and others

This is just to start the discussion because with all the development that have been going on at the TGC it will be nice to have access to it too eventually.

I think that'll be the operative word. I think most dgdk users are waiting for a basic update/bug fix for it, and they'll worry about the "icing" later

Well now that we know that they are working on the “cake” I just want them to know that we are definitely interested by the “icing” to put on it.

It always helps to be cynical about everything - and then you can gloat when your right.

Pessimists are the happiest people, they're either happy cos they're right, or they're pleasantly surprised

Anyhoo, back on topic, when is the last time DGDK has been updated? Ie, what version of DBP is it equivalent to?

Its between 5.5 and 5.7 (cant remember which exactly). Unfortunately GSDK adds its own bugs, so its a bit hard to tell.

Another reason for a quick, bug-free, yet powerful update.

I know that there are bugs in the engine, but why is this always brought into the limelight everytime the SDK is mentioned. I'll be perfectly honest people, I've not actually encountered a show stopping bug with the functions I've been using. I had no difficulty in writing my asteroids clone. I had thought that a problem existed in the Audio (dbSound) functions, only to find that I'd b*ggered up on IDs. An update will be released by TGC soon enough, but the system is still very usable.

This isn't posted to instigate yet another discussion on the rights and wrongs of a paying customer to demand updates etc, as this isn't my intention. I'm just saying that the DGDK is usable. If there are bugs encountered, chances are that there's an alternative workaround.

Paul.

Unfortunately the inability to use FX files was a bit of a problem for me...

But aside from that, it does work well.

This is why I did start this discussion, I personally like the DGDK it is nice to work in an OOP language like C++ and to have all the functionality of the DGDK and like Paul I have been able to work on my game without too much problem.

But now that they are working on fixing the DGDK I just wanted to remind them that we as a community we would appreciate to be able to purchase the expansion pack like Dark A.I. and the others that are available to the DBP users.
