Hey Jon, these are really nice, and coming along great! I like the subtle skin tones on the girl's cheeks.
Since these are WIP's, your probably already know this, but on the wolf and girl model it looks like they could use a little cutting around the joints for better deformation, unless these are going to be renders only.
I also resisted a Wacom for the longest time. Then I finally bought a little 4x5, and it has made all the difference in the world. You also mentioned the hair...do you have any good hair brushes for photoshop? If not, Google "Nagel hair brushes", the're pretty awesome for doing all kinds of hair, fur, and stubble, would be great for your wolf model too.
Nagel also has a great collection of free skin brushes too, and with next gen textures at 2048x2048, they're awesome for adding detail to skin.
You should consider posting your stuff over at Polycount. Those guys can give you some tough love, but they definitely know what they're talking about. I've yet to post anything there yet, but just from lurking I've learned SOOOO much in the last few months.
EDIT: It looks like you've already used some sort of hair brush on your wolf model, and if not, then wow you're
goooood.
