IT'S HERE!!! IT'S HERE!!!

The music is finally ready!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le95dJJuB8k

The music starts about 7 seconds into the video (odd error).

My older brother said it was my best yet. His friend is a super techno fan and he said it was really good too

What do you think?

the music is pretty cool and has a funky tone to it. I was surprised to see it not the same 10 seconds being looped over and over again, which would have also been acceptable.

Rock on =P

The music sounds nice, although I'm not sure it goes with the style of your game. Maybe try a couple other styles?

I've started on something else, its pretty good so far... but by then, anyone else have comments on the improved chief model? Or if oyu have comments on the music, that would be good too.

I've also started working on programming an AI system. Turning out pretty well

Guy is looking much better. The chest section still needs a bunch of work, but he's definitly getting there.

oh, and btw, you might want to reduce the number of polys in the hands, as they seem to have way more than nessasary...

Please don't post in the thread my sig leads to.

Well i can see that the legs look a lot better, but the chest definatly needs more work. Its too square and oversized. Other than that the model is coming along well.

The music, while good, in my opinion definatly does not fit the theme of your game very well, consider some more suspenseful music (for the sneaking around) and other types. They don't all have to be Japanese music, it just has to fit it.

HERE IT IS!!!!!!!!

Update

Whats in the new video?

You can hear a bit of the new music, but it gets cut off in the loading process.

The updated arms and sword moves are shown, with a muddy, dirty texture and a more realistic structure.

You can see the health HUD at the top, and the way the health decreases

When the health starts getting low, the screen starts getting less bright.

The health pack model, and when you pick it up your health is replenished by 50 points.

Here is the new video : http://youtube.com/watch?v=Byxc9YejDGg
The video might not work yet, but please try again later if it doesn't. (It worked over here)

Please, enjoy, and comment on anything! I need as much feedback as possible

That looks good, but its a bit too foggy, the guy sounds like he's suffocating, and that's about it. But, great going with all of that though.

heres my CC

the walking sound is horrible...sound like he has bricks as shoes,

and your FPS is really low, and there dosn't seem to be like a whole lot of things in the game so that can be cuased from three things

1)Crappy computer
2)Bloated code
3)to much shaders

And once you add enemeys, AI, updgrades...etc... its going to go much more lower so theres some words of wisdom ^^

Yeah, I guess your right. Those were home made sounds :-P Do you think I'm allowed to use royalty free sounds or the sounds supplied with DBPro for footsteps?

@Peter H...
Thanks for pointing that out! But what do you think about the health system and such?

@TEH_CODERER ( it's so fun to type that out)
Thanks man, good luck with your stuff too. The glowing is just the HDR camera range, I'll fix it

pretty nice idea! ok, at first i thought the footsteps were his heart beat lol (maybe if he gets real low health you should use that same sound effect ) the other thing i noticed was that his breathing stops when he stops walking, it seems like he should keep breathing.

also, the breathing seemed a bit loud, i think it might get annoying at that volume level after a while. I like how you darken the screen when the health goes down though!

(btw i'm assuming that bar in the upper left corner is the health bar, it looked like it anyway)

@ Peter H...

Yes that was the health Thanks!

Ok so I'll turn down the breathing, get a new footstep sound, and keep the breathing going but even quieter when not walking.

When your health is too low, like Peter said, and when your status is well known by too any guards and the suspense is sky rocketing, the heart beat will go frantic

Thanks for the feedback guys.

I don't really klnow what to do now. Honestly, I've been trying so many times at the same thign and it turned out horrible.

For example, the chief... I need some tutorials or some help. Music is getting harder and harder, now that I don't have Nero and I have to use audactiy.

I need some motivation.

I'll just work on enviromental animals or something. Spice things up.

When you say skinning would that better the texturing or the rigging, I'm afraid some people use skinning as a term for either one. Texturing shouldn't be too hard, I mean once you've UVMapped out the coordinates, in photoshop, paint.net, PSP or GIMP its just a matter of outlining and colouring in each bit and taking a dark colour with about 10-20% transparency and adding some of the details where it should get darker or 'cloudy' and then drawing fine details on top of that for a basic explanation.

If you mean rigging, in MS was the quickest rig I have ever tried in my life. You make and position the right bones, selects the right vertices, group each selection for the bones and then apply those groups to the right bones and you're rigged.

If you have trouble with UVMapping, I think there are good Lithunwrap ones out there, as you've done the face, the simplest although inaccurate with limitations, but a useful way would be to make the UV Map in lithunwrap, select all and apply a planar setting and scale it to fit how you want and export.

Hope that helps, if it doesn't, let me know more of your problem, what you've done, what you want and screens and I'll do my best to help.

Yeah, thanks, but I've gotten everything down but texturing.

I just need some ideas. What do you think a japanese badass chief should be wearing?

(He should be scary and strong)

A lot of tough samurai armour, not any old armour, fancy looking stuff that gives him status, as though to say 'don't mess with me, I'm tough and I'll cook your Swedish meatballs for breakfast'

Something like this but more metallic, a big tough guy should be able to handle metal armour.

Look at this site for references.
http://www.japanesearmor.com/

[edit]
As for texturing, its not really just about doing it willy nilly, look for objects with your texture, in google, take your favourite paint program and look at the object, take its colours and look how the patterns are formed and copy them and where there would be dark bits, make it darker with a dark brush that's 10-20% transparent. The good thing with the samurai armour site, is not only for modelling reference by texturing too.

Hey, thanks for all this, it helped. I got started on a pretty good texture, but photoshop shut off on me due to freezing of my stupid computer.

So I moved on to other things

I made two butterfly models and animated them, gonna make some guard dog models too, and the model for the guard.

I made this facility thing for the village. You find out the manager has control of shipping, and he monitors and controls all transportation of boats and ID in the boating dock.

You have to sneak into the storage room at night. Using as much stealth as possible, you have to kill a guard, take his weapons, and kill the manager. Then you take his ID, password information to the control pad. From there you set up your boat to leave the village.

All that isn't done yet, but it will be

The facility model is almost complete. It's looking pretty good. I'l show pictures when its done and in the game.

Nice new screens mate, no problem about the help And shame about photoshop dying on you, same thing has happened to me when my computer was full of so much crap slowing it right down, and the loss of good work, I know that pain, I was working on a really good model then...Powercut, tried it again, one of Hexagon's bugs hits me (which its never done before) .

[edit]

Just noticed the poly count on those butterflies, quite unnecessary, you can do one polygon per wing, texture and alpha map it, I think for an alpha map you but black where you want transparency and white where you want it opaque and between that effects the opacity, but I could be wrong and the white and black are the other way round.

Dunno if I want to continue this. Got a few more important projects. Plus a new one that I'm really excited about ^^

If you guys are like "OMG NO I REAALLY WANT TO PLAY THIS GAME AND I WANT TO SEE IF IT WINS!" then there is an additional small chance that I'll continue.

But overall, I think I won't. I came into this project with a bad start, and starting over isn't a good idea. I don't have enough time left for that.

So... anyone can use this storyline. You can use the ideas, anything. I might even release the lightmapped building in the first video

EDIT: Oh, and probably the first music you heard too.

Thanks for all your time, comments, and motivation.

Hmm, another dropping out? Too bad. This would have been interesting. I should get back in this, but I just don't have the time to start a brand new game, or even one at the same stage as Hinkipuk...

But what kind of game do I have a good start on that I can meet my own expectations with? Hmm...
