Due to popular demand, find RC1 of the new V104 patch for FPSC. Post here here if you have good/bad feedback on it. Rest assured we are striving to resolve all your remaining issues with FPSC, so you get a great creative experience:

http://www.fpscreator.com/betafiles/FPSC_104_RC1.zip

The following changes have been made:

* Increased resource for attachments (guns and shadows) so more entities can be created
* Increased loading of enemies allowing them to only load one weapon (held weapon)
* Optimized Sound Manager to avoid a possible 20 million iteration loop (speed up for large levels)
* Switched 3D Sound Buffers to use faster CPU basic virtualiser, and switched off Listener Doppler (faster fps)
* All 3D Sounds now created using DSBCAPS_MUTE3DATMAXDISTANCE - distant sounds muted (faster fps)
* Capped Player Speed to reasonable (none-game-killing) limits 50 to 200 (default is 100)

I think you made a mistake with this one..... Seems like only one enemy is allowed to hold a weapon and the others not. Check the screenshot. Medieval crossbow is missing, Conker is supposed to have a blaster, but is holding???? Aiko has no assault gun, Skeleton and Thug are supposed to have a colt45......

Put more then one armed enemy in the level and weapons start becoming invisible.

Here is what I think he meant and my test confirms:

Enemies can hold their assigned weapon. For example, "Aiko (Assault)" can have the assault weapon and it appears normally, but "Aiko (Assault)" or "Aiko (Unarmed)" can not have the Uzzi. It will not appear. You can still have any number of enemies with weapons, but it appears they will only show their assigned weapons.

Best.

So does that mean that stock FPSC enemies will not use custom weapons?
I am pretty sure there is no Aiko (phaser) character.
If this is the case it is going to put a damper on wanting to make your own weapons.
Testing out 1.04 RC1 now.

Does this incorporate all the other updates or do you have to install these one after the other?

No, that's not what I meant. Even the default weapon dissappears. Put the same combinations I did in your level and you'll see weapons dissappearing.

Ok, I did the same except for the crossbow. They all had the proper weapons and they were all visible. Looks like it's going to be one of those "everybody's got a different issue" kind of thing.

What I did was I place four Aiko (unarmed) in a level.
I equipped one with the colt .45,one with an automatic weapon and two with custom weapons and tested the level.
Out of the four only the Aiko with the .45 actually had a weapon and none of them would do squat no matter what script I used.
So I took those out put in an Aiko (pistol) and equippd it with the .45.
She showed up,.45 in hand, and tried to kill me.
My best guess is that if the character is a pistol holding character he or she will use any pistol-type weapon.
The big question I have now is how will this work with custom characters and the characters from model pack 4 since they don't have those specifics.
It may just be my imagination but it seems like my fps has finally increased.
Is there some reason that when you install an update for FPSC (like this one) that it sets your preferences and global settings to default?
I am just wondering and I know that is being a little nitpicky.
So far (except for the obvious weapon thing) the latest upgrade seems to be working fine.

I'm glad Fred has somewhat the same issues. When I revert to 1.03 the whole problem is gone and everything shows up as it is supposed to do.

The policemen from model pack 4 seems to be working fine with pistols...I haven't tried any other weapons with them yet.
Other than the possible weapon hiccup this upgrade seems to be functioning well.

Did you guys try different characters with different weapons in a scene? That's when the problems start for me, as well as cutom weapons. Just create a simple room and place a number of the default scifi/ww2 characters in them, each with different weapons. Don't change the default weapon, but pick a different character with a different standard weapon. Don't just try one or two and say it works fine, try different combinations. The problem doesn't always occur with the FPSC included characters, but for me it always does with custom weapons.

Could anyone explain what these changes mean in a simpler way?

* Increased resource for attachments (guns and shadows) so more entities can be created
* Increased loading of enemies allowing them to only load one weapon (held weapon)
* Optimized Sound Manager to avoid a possible 20 million iteration loop (speed up for large levels)
* Switched 3D Sound Buffers to use faster CPU basic virtualiser, and switched off Listener Doppler (faster fps)
* All 3D Sounds now created using DSBCAPS_MUTE3DATMAXDISTANCE - distant sounds muted (faster fps)

I don't quite get what them mean. Sorry

Yeah mine says v1.03 but the patch is installed and works good for my needs.

Now we hope they give us MP3 support and possibly Multimap multiplayer (Would be nice)

Is that all the upgrade does? Modify (replace) the existing .exe? Then I could easily upgrade, and downgrade whenver needed just by using whichever .exe I need.

It is a diffrent version, Eureka, even if it says 103

I also have the weapon bug - I gave conker a Jackhammer from Model Pack 5 and he runs his script and shoots (with the jackhammers sound) but the Vweap doesn't show up

After I installed V1.04 RC1, everytime I would try to build or test a level it would stop and give me "Runtime Error 3002, Could not load sound at line 22188" then crash. I noticed in the description for V1.04 RC1 that they changed sound settings:

Quote: "* Optimized Sound Manager to avoid a possible 20 million iteration loop (speed up for large levels)
* Switched 3D Sound Buffers to use faster CPU basic virtualiser, and switched off Listener Doppler (faster fps)
* All 3D Sounds now created using DSBCAPS_MUTE3DATMAXDISTANCE - distant sounds muted (faster fps)"

Since it was getting a runtime error while loading a sound line, and they just changed sound settings, I tried to go back and install V1.03 RC2 over it, now everything works fine again.

What could cause this error? Is anyone else having this problem?

@lee

there now seems to be an issue with lighting on guns.

The guns lighting seems to be the same from the start, whether you increase/decrease the ambient lighting, or enter a room with different color lights or anything, it all stays the same.

im using red lights, and v1.04.

also not, this did not work in v 1.03.

the situation does however work normal in test game mode, but not in built game.

I had this happen to me in v1.03 as well as v1.04, also it seems that characters appearance does not change when you use a hud overlay.(a green tinted hud) The characters should have a green tint to them but they do not. they show straight through and that is the sam for the weapons.

I have had many problems with the map-editor failing to laod and causing the program not to respond and then shutting down. Here is mt install order. If there is a flaw please let me know...

Version 1
Model Pack 1
Model Pack 2
Model Pack 3 v2
Model Pack 4
Model Pack 5
Update 1.04 RC1

It was my understanding that model pack 5 has the v 1.03 already integrated into the .exe. I did a complete re-install of all you see above and I am still get the error. The program didn't stop running until I installed Model Pack 3. Please let me know if you can help. Thanks.

I'm not sure, I know Model Pack 3 has an update integrated and I really don't think it's wise to include any updates at all in a model pack.

Quote: "Model Pack 3 v2"

Is that a newer version?

Suggestion, works fine for me. Just install V1. Now copy all of the files in your main FPSC folder (where all the .exe's are) to a backup folder. Now install the rest of the stuff. I something stops working just copy the files you've put in the backup folder into the main FPAC folder again.

At least you can work with FPSC again.

With each update released it seems like Lee is managing to break something that worked perfectly well, besided getting rid of bugs. Hopefully the next update will at least not create more bugs, it's not funny anymore to install new patches if they break stuff that worked well.

It looks like more and more people are reluctant to install the updates, I don't blame them, but on the other hand it's not helping to get rid of problems either.

Perhaps Lee should just stop breaking things while he's trying to fix things, it's not a good habit.

Let me tell you something, in the world of programming, that isn't always easy Especially when you have a massive heap of code as complex and disorganized as that of FPSC

Limiting player speed is not helpful,
maybe someone is using ultra slow mode
for some reason or other, like, making cutscenes,
it's one of the few aspects of the player that is
editable and now it gets knackered.
Surely it's better to allow the game maker to
decide such aspects of the player avatar.

drew4663, can you go into the problems you are now having with V104 RC1 so I can resolve them for RC2. The sound issue and the lower limit speed restriction issues have been resolved, and will be part of RC2.
