Hi, I was just wondering if there was a more efficient compiler for darkbasic than the built-in one (82 lines of code really shouldn't be 2mb)

Thanks for your help!

Hey there.

What kind of program is this 82 lines of code?

I was just wondering if it was non graphical (text only), 2D or a 3D example. I am new here and was just wondering if resources were packed into the program by the compiler?

Thanks for your indulgence.

Don :-s

it's a fractal generator based on the darkforge thingy on CD2 of darkbasic. There are no external files, just the code. You can have a peek at the source by clicking the source button (right now it's almost an exact copy, but please bare with me, i'm new to DB

I think that as long as with 2000+ lines of code it stays 2Mb it's all good

arrrrgh this is beyond a joke - my program is now 114 lines (including whitespace and comments) and the exe file has exploded to over 5mb!

Again, no media is being used

Wierd, I just selected "compile exe" instead of "compile final (I use darkedit) and the exe was much smaller (though stilll too big in my opinion

Yeah, my problem was that the .dba file I was working on was in a folder with lots of unrelated subfolders, so when I made final, it included the whole shebang hehehe... still, i've moved it to its own folder and everything now, it's still 1990kb for 113 lines of codes, seems pretty bloated...

That's because DB is a virtual machine. There is one consolation though - when you get to a couple of thousand lines it won't be too much bigger than it is now.

*sigh* DBpro can get up to 6MB without media on patch 3.
