I hope it's okay to start a new thread for this. I want the playable demos to be separate from the tech tests for easier reference.

Anyway, This first level demo is around the size and length I plan on the sub-levels to be. It is fully populated with entities and lights except for a possible enemy or two. I get a constant 30FPS in every nook and cranny, so I'm looking to see what you guys get.

If you test this sub-level, please respond with your FPS rate and computer specs so I can use this to benchmark.

In-game, use "E" as the enter key.

cool, im going to download and test now, i'll edit and leave feedback when finished

edit:

very nice, great level design, i got some major lag, but im not exactly running it on an amazing machine, though if i kept the crosshair pointing at the floor i could get a nice 25-32

Um...dude. Place the player start marker better cuz i started on a grey, jumbled up roof.

That's a bug. The marker is placed well inside the bottom floor. I've never encountered what you did. It might be the FPSpack program or something. Let's see if anyone else has that issue.

K. Lol, it took exactly 25 seconds to load and i had 33 fps just like you did. But, besides that- i tried it 3 more times after that, but never worked. Can you re-build the game without the FPS Pack and let me see it. (I won't...steal anything?) if thats what you're afraid of people doing .

Awsome! Took about 25 or so seconds to load, and ran 33 fps most of the time, only occasionly 22-28. The cutsom media was fantastic!

It took me a LONG time to figure out you could shoot the lock on the other end of that one door though - it really shows you can do more in FPSC that you think

@ Mike: No, you don't need the software.

I will upload the game in a rar file to see if that helps. It will take a while cause my server is slow on the upload tonight.

Oh, do you guys with issues have the latest DirectX update from December 2006? I made this level with RC9, so that *might* be an issue for you.

Excellent Job DarkFact, I had a stright 33 FPS the entire way through. 20 seconds loading time.

PC Specs:
nForce 680i Motherboard
2048 MB DDR3 RAM
Dual nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX's in SLI Mode
Developer Grade PhysX Card
500GB HD

I think that is all the specs that would effect this, other than an Intel Core2Duo Processor(The 1K one). It works wonders with games.

I got that as well but only the second time i played it.

Theres some bugs like: Some doors opening reverse and it coliding with other objects and when i crouched to get the sercurity card i could see right through the stairs when i stood up!

some dacals flickering with more colision problems with desks and tables.

It was good level design and i loved the construction area! But the wood had no texture. I also liked the rotating F sign!

Keep up the great work. I would love to play Level 2.

Frames kept around 33 fps some corners 29. Not alot of lag.

My computer specs:

Amd athlon 1800+
1.6 ghz 256 ram
Radeon 9550 256 ram

Nice work!

Ah, just plugged in my 7600 + 2 gb of RAM, I'll test your level and tell you how it preforms on my upgraded-and-now-power-hungry computer..

EDIT: Okay, under my new specs:

3.00E GHz Processor
512MB Nvidia GeForce 7600 GS
2.00GB RAM

I got a smooth 32-33 fps alomst the entire time! ONCE it dropped to 27, but only for a brief moment when I entered the room with the switch to move the coke machine. The second time I pressed play it spawned on the ceiling and I fell out of the level, but this was still the FPS Pack one.

Here's level1b! (nearly complete) This version has some pretty stupid AI, but that part I can't control much.

Very nice level! I too found it very difficult to work out that you could shoot the lock from the other side (i was looking for another switch).

I notice hat this was made with RC9. How come you're not experiencing the problems that everyone else is with semi-transparent characters and mucked up lighting?

@bob - Thanks for test! I will get the mech as a character soon. The animations for the bones is taking a while.

@AE - Thanks, dude. I don't know why RC9 is working well for me. All I can think of is that I always uninstall previous updates and then do a new install for the latest ones. The only issue I have is that only soft shadows work in the final exe.

Did you play level1b as well as level1a?

Currently you can download my script pack buried in this showcase, and I'm willing to make custom scripts for games that show promise (this being one of them). I'm currently working on some 'tactical' AI, though it hasn't turned out so great yet. The best thing to do would probally be to make diffrent AI for diffrent situations, but that is hard to do for a freebie pack as you never know how the end user will use it. However, custom scripts for a specific game can be done a bit better, I suppose. Send me an e-mail so we can work some stuff out

EDIT: Tried the new demo. I've already posted my specs above, and I'm somewhat displeased. It had several points where the FPS dropped to 20 for about 3 seconds, probally due to the AI. I can help you there by making some 'speed-friendly' AI, along with some tips on how to get it to work best. Hopefully that should improve speed.

Also, I do have my anti-virus and anti-spyware and so on still running, I suppose it would run better if I turned those off. On the plus side this one was much easier to navigate.

Thanks, Airslide. I've downloaded your AI pack and am re-compiling the level with your AI. I'll check it out and let you see the results.

EDIT: I turned off physics for the enemies and Always On to yes. The FPS dropped to 15 around each one of them until I killed them. I'm re-compiling with Always On to no to see the difference.

I can't understand why character entities as opposed to non-character dynamic entities draw so much on the engine. Is it the huge bip animation file?? Or is it part of the coding itself?

EDIT: Okay, now it makes sense. I re-did the level and 1 of the 4 enemies stood still while the other three were contantly "running in place". The FPS near the stationary enemy was 32, while it dropped to 11 around the running ones. I conclude, all things being equal, that the power draw on the game engine is from the bip animation. Now, what to do about it?

Yes, and 1b was fantastic as well (and a little less taxing on the brain). When do you expect Level1c to come out?

DarkFact - it is really important that you use triggers to spawn your characters. It will really boost speed. Also, I can make some new scripts designed to help with the speed issue, however to get the best effect from them they still need to be tweaked depending on where they are placed and what they should be doing.

Right. I will get there eventually. Right now the focus is on rock solid level creation. This way, when I get FPS drops with nothing but enemies added, I can know better where and how to focus my optimization efforts.

Man, I'm having all kinds of trouble with this. Both versions I downloaded, I start out on the jumbled gray roof, altough it looks slightly different on each version.

Yes I have Dec 2006 directx installed. At least there is one other person having the same problem, but most people seem to be fine.

Any chance of an upload without the FPS Pack?

They're just segment walls 25 units in height instead of 100. The roof segments are placed at 22 units off the y axis instead of 0 to compensate.

Great, I understand. But first, let me try this again on my desktop computer and see what happens. Maybe there's something screwy going on with my laptop, just about everyone else doesn't have a problem.

Well the game worked just fine on my desktop, so I'll chalk it up to a problem with my laptop's graphics drivers, they might need updated.

Great game and level design by the way, it felt like a commercial game!

Thanks Bond, quite an honor coming from you. The commercial feel is paramount to me completing this project. If I have to design for the low-end, then I won't make DFII. I wish everyone had high-end, up-to-date computers, but everyone doesn't. However, I'm making this game to take the full advantages that FPSC has to offer. Sorta the opposite goal of DFI.

Thanks for taking the time to check it out and post.

No problem, good luck with the project! Oops, I almost forgot: I had steady 33 FPS throughout, just a few minor lags in a couple places, not even really worth mentioning.

2 gigs ram
Nvidia 7900 256MB
