So...I'm using gamma to create a flash on the screen, which then dies down gradually, back to normal gamma levels.

My FPS drops from the sync rate of 50 to 40 when I'm adjusting the gamma. Is this because of he way gamma works? Is it adjusting the graphical output, or changing my monitor settings?

Is there another way to achieve this? I am creating a red "flash". Maybe I could use a light, if I understood them!
Thanks in advance.

Check out the "iced" demo, that comes with darkbasic. Has exactly the effect you're looking for

ZX Spectrum 48k Issue 3, Radio shack Tape drive, Rank arena 12" T.V. set.

Tried it with fog, as in the Iced demo, and with ambient light.

Ambient light - waste of time, too subtle.

Fog - not as good as gamma, but still good. Went one further than the demo (as you do!). I had to set up a loop that set the fog distance from real close to very distant, gives a weird effect, rather like a nuclear blast effect in reverse, clearing from the centre outwards.

Thanks in advance.

Because bitmap fades are so slow, I use gamma for my fades both up and down and it works great. And personally, I think the gamma setting adjusts the 3dvideo card gamma temporarily until the fullscreen D3dDevice is released.
