Original Post

Slime '09 is a remake of the old Slime Volleyball games. If your not familar with those, check them out here : http://homepage.ntlworld.com/bartle/volleyball-2004/index.html

The gameplay will be pretty much identical to that of the gameplay found in that link. I dont know if we'll be able to get a AI to such a high state of being, but we'll certainly try. Slime '09 will have a few different game modes. One of which is the obvious slime volleyball mode (aka, the classic). The second one were positive on is a bomb mode. In bomb mode, the ball is in fact, a bomb. Its like a cross between hot potato and an egg race

If the gameplay is so similar, then why make a remake you may be wondering? The answer is simple. And that is that slime 2004 is... lame? Its got no sizzle, no crackle, no pop. Slime '09 will change that. Slime '09 will have sizzle, and crackle, and most DEFINITELY IT WILL HAVE POP!

Not only will the feel of the game be a bit different. But were plunging into some heavy slime customization. Meaning, the slime you play as shouldnt be the same exact thing as the slime you face. Ever. Well, maybe not EVER, but most of the time at least. We have 26 hat or hair styles, 6 glasses, and 5 facial hairs to make the slimes unique. The color of the slime will also be custimizable, so really, there are quite a few options for how your slime to look. While your slime is looking sexy on the field, lots of other graphically impressive things should be going on, to make Slime '09 stand out from 2004.

We started this project a few days ago, on the 22 I think. Well, thats when we started actually coding and modeling. We started some heavy concept designs a long time, around when the Community Competition ended. Weve decided to get everyone in on what were doing, it would be a good idea to keep a dev video log. So, we have.

There are 4 dev videos so far. the first 3 are all each pertaining to one day of development. The fourth however, spans a longer time period, but thats only because we were all off on vacation, and I had work to get to.
Check out all the videos. Trust me, they do get more interesting
DEV 1 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nBWe9zz-lb4
DEV 2 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5-cMoeckTI&feature=related
DEV 3 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EReGeR7J_E4&feature=related
DEV 4 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UDs-sSN4u2w&feature=channel

Dev 3 and 4 are the most entertaining to watch. Do not be fooled though, these videos dont really show tips or tricks, they just show finished things... or not. I dont know.

Here is the required screen shot.

I would love to get some feed back from you guys.[href]null[/href]

Freaking awesome man, I totally love slime volleyball and this looks 10 times better. 780 different slimes sounds pretty sweet as well. With a bit of improvement to the AI, you'll have a spiffy looking version of slime volleyball. That blood effect is sick as well.

Sweet! It's looking good, the AI near the end there is starting to look pretty legit.

Are you planning on having more stages? The city stage there seems to be a bit dark to me, I couldn't really see the detail on the slimes, which isn't really a big deal, I just think it'd be cool to have some brighter locations.

Indeed! Its funny that you mention the darkness, because one of my buddies was telling me that. My response was : Its a city night level, but who knows.

There are going to be lighter levels though. The plan is to have a campaign and a skirmish modes. In campaign, you travel around to key world places, and play slimes of that nationality.

I was so freaking happy when the AI started working. It turned out to be one little A=B line that was spose to be inside an if statement. Around 1:30 in the morning, I was cheering my computer when the AI returned the ball safely.

Alrighty, time for another video. Check the first post for the video. For some reason, there is a lot of empty video time at the end of the video, and I dont know why.

EDIT: Oh, hopefully by the time any one looks at this, the youtube video will be done processing. Please leave me some C&C.

Just put out another dev video update. The AI is getting better ever so slowly.

I would really appreciate some comments or criticism.

Just watched the last clip, and looks pretty cool. The AI could do some work obviously, but other than that, impressive!

Loved the look of the slimes at the end of that last vid, very nice work. The new background is fantastic as well.

Hey, sorry for the double post, but there is a new dev video out now.
Check the first post for dev vid 9.

The key things you'll notice in that video are the early stages of a menu system, and a spiffy new background. The quality on it sorta stinks because of youtube, but ingame, its nice.

Id love to get some C&C.
