It looks amazing but it looks way to high poly for a game. Unless you are a really good texturer and it only looks high poly.

how many polies is it?

Forgot to do a poly count but its fairly low poly....well compared to most my models, i would say about 3k or so. I will check later and post it.

Looks tad of a cross between a jedi-light-saber and a fuel rod.

It's just awesome that way. I'd say it was a Plasma-Pack.

@zork all the way : yes it was made in 3dsmax

@venge: ya most renders/cgi things of radioactive objects are green but if you go to a powerplant and look at the reactor rods they glow a soft blue color so and i just like blue better =)

@Pillsbury Dobok: plasma/antimatter i donno yet something that can make my ship go zoom

It's not a bad start, but it looks like a rather rushed extruded cylinder with some random greebles dotted around it, you should experiment with adding different types of details around it, as it's clear your just added to the sides of it with random boxes/wires, which isn't very hard to do, if you ingraved some patterns and added a better looking structure to the inside it would be alot better, however judging by the screws this thing must be tiny so I guess it isn't too bad.

@dark coder: You are right random greebles and the such, didnt spend to much time on the wires and stuff because at the level people will be looking at it they wont be able to tell, also thinking about taking off the greebles as they throw the poly count up to 7k and they wont really be needed i think they look cool though =). what do you mean ingravins though? like a scratch displace or something, also what do you mean structure to the interior?

And a clay render of a mid-sized reactor that the fuel rods will be used on, its still a wip and still needs a lot more details, but here it is anyways.

Lead modeler in halo3? no way dude, my models are no where near that quality. Ask any real pro 3d artist on this fourm and they will be able to poke holes all over my models, I still have a lot of learning to do. The guys on here making character models that rival oblivions characters, now they are pros. Their models are awesome.

The glow for the rod is generated by a cylinder mapped with the vray light material. you can do it from lighting as well though it just takes a little more tweaking. And im glad I could inspire you, but if you want something really inspiring go look at the fantasy pack post from bond1, hes damn good.

Both models look very nice but the amount of detail you give is unnecesary unless you will be seing these models close up very oftin.

Ya I know im not quite used to modeling for a game yet, im used to kicking up the details so the high res render looks good as a background or whatever. But still they are way lower poly than most of my models which top out at 41k or so sometimes.

Its not bad but a few things, the wires should probley go into the box somewhere or they wont blow up =P, mabey give the wires a big of randomness as in real world they probley wont all be bend exactly the same way. but other than that its a good start, what program are you useing 3dsmax?

Heres a look at one of my first models:

Blue is the right color. Comic book radiation is green.

did you know that only one of those tiny nuclear pellets produces as much energy as 1 metric ton of coal?
