no, you need the other files, put all of the files into an installer or something.

Personally I use FPSPack although a lot of users won't use this now due to the fact it doesn't support loading of saved games at the moment and an update for this product is now overdue as you will see from the websites home page.

http://www.rastaworld.com/content/view/29/54/

I bought this some time ago and still use it when sending demo's to people due to the fact it packs all the files into a single executable customisable installer and allows use of compression giving you a considerably smaller file size.

Certainly not the biggest waste of money I've every spent for $20 and if it does eventually get updated it could be up there again.

Vishnu is your other alternative which is meant to be more secure than FPSPack for security of custom media and allows for saved game states although this doesn't function as a single executable packer / installer with file compression. There are a couple of extra steps required to use Vishnu than just double clicking an executable for the user but shouldn't be a problem for a regular PC gamer.

If Vishnu supports packing / executable installer in future releases it would be the outright winner in my opinion

Apparently people have tried other non FPSC specific applications for doing all this but I haven't so I can't advise you on any.

There's no more steps to Vishnu then to Fps Pack. The same. You still have to load from the installer once...then from the game once. Same thing with Vishnu, you load from Vishnu once then from the game for a cold start. The only extra step possible is "Load Slots" which Pack don't do because...Well, you can't save with it....The crap you heard from Ben was just that.....crap. The 5 steps total you read on the site includes packing the game originally.. >.< t

And Vishnu isn't "meant" to be more secure, it "is" more secure....FPS Pack provides 0% protection. It's just a packing utility, nothing more at this time.

And no Non FPSC specific application works because of that simple reason. There not FPSC specific. You'd have to code your own if you liked niether of the choices available.

Thanks for clearing this up Loc

I have purchased your Vishnu application but haven't got round to using it yet as the level I am currently working on isn't complex enough yet to require saving and I'm only sending it to a couple of people for testing purposes so FPSPack has just been the first thing to hand.

I'll give it a proper go in due course but you obviously know more about this type of product than I do as you have created one.

Just out of interest will you be incorporating any compression / packing feature into Vishnu for future releases. Having checked your release notes I cannot see that it is currenty in there and would surely be worth considering?

It should be known this isn't my product. It's S4's. That's why it's on a url reflecting him and not myself. It was made for 'our' game at first. Vishnu is not done though, and although S4 is super busy at this time, we spoke as soon as yesterday about Vishnu and it's development, it's sales, and it's future.

S4 at times isn't good with words, and thought I could better explain things(plus I believed in the product so much I gave him server space and built him the site). I think this may have back fired on me writing such a long 'over view'. Apparently people aren't looking at the 'quick start' guide that shows the 5 steps start to finish. I wrote the long overview for S4, because I wanted to explain everything in such detail, that idiots(and we all know there out right?) would not be bothering s4 with dumb questions. Rolfy suggested the 'quick start'durring the pre public beta days, but perhaps that was all that was needed. But soon as I did that, I know he'd get a questions as to why it makes a "Gamesaves" folder in the C:/ drive. You can't win for loosing.

Feel free to send anything to me you think may help Vishnu. The only compression is from the zip created at this time. I will bring this up to him though to see if further compressing wouldn't be possible. The biggest problem are the files FPSC generates. It's not like they export us a mpq size file ala Blizzard Games.
