Thanks NickIgoe. I think world of spectrum is the only place you can getm the rom for ****** ****** from. The chances are none of you have ever heard of it, but it was a big favourite in my family about ten years ago.

No probs WitchBomber glad I could help, But I think my remake is a little more obscure, Does anyone remember Battle of Britain by K'Soft.I don't think it`s got any chance of winning but the main game is so basic It gives me the chance to really add to it. I have remade the game once before on the Amiga and almost managed to get it published but they pulled out quite late on and I never really finished it as I had planned. Better luck this time.

How did you get that so quickly? I thought it would be a bit harder than that. I just hope no-one steals the idea, or I might end up doing The ********* !

Don`t post any preview pictures on thier forums or discuss how far you are into your project as they have tried to ban one of our projects cos we posted a preview picture of it and they thought we were well into the project already.

The controversy was centered around the competition start date not being until June 1st.

After seeing screenshots of my Pacific Islands remake they removed the links to the screenies and banned it because they felt that it was significantly developed already and the quality of it (assuming that it had had major development time) was putting other people off entering.

I appealed and explained that what I had was really very early stages and that although the screen looked complete it was based upon stock code and mostly unfunctional. I gave them a link to the stock code (Terrascape) and answered some misconceptions they had.

The ruling was overturned and Pacific Islands will be admissable to the competition.

I'm not going to worry about Pacific Islands. Soccer Rivals would never win the competition anyway. The ********* might have a chance but the AI code would be really hard.

"Don`t post any preview pictures on thier forums or discuss how far you are into your project as they have tried to ban one of our projects cos we posted a preview picture of it and they thought we were well into the project already."

Nick thats a bit unfair. Pneumatic is right in saying that the entry is admissable but it was NEVER BANNED. We removed the pics while we discussed it (about 8hrs) and then posted a reply asking you not to be so promotional .... just yet. It looks a cool game and I would have hoped you would of been as quick to defend your comments as you were to post them.

Also, and not being pedantic or pendantry or whatever, but the first prize is worth £635.

Thanks for all the promotion you Banshee type guys have done

I'll give you some more clues.
It is all one word after "The".
It was available on the Amiga and the PC.
It was programmed by non-English-speakers.
It is set on Earth, but not at any point in time over the last 500 years.
The sequel was released last year. (about ten years after the first one)

eh? The prize? I take it you're not talking to me then.
I thought that number of clues might give you it. I think I will finish Soccer Rivals and if I have time (aye right!) I will make an attempt at The Patrician.

Edit: Look how much confidence I have in myself!

How do you enter?
I've looked at the website and found it very hard to find out the rules, where to enter, what has already been made or anything.
Any help appreciated.

thanx.

Can you tell us yet when the deadline is?
I have just realised I have my Advanced Higher Computing project and I would be best to get the practical side of that out of the way before the end of the summer holidays, which could be difficult if I'm at NASA for 3 weeks out of 7. So I almost certainly won't have time for the Patrician.

Can we use DarkBASIC Classic w/ DarkMatter trial for the compo? I asked this because if I use the DarkMatter trial then people can only play for only up to 30 days until the DarkMatter enhancement pack expires.

Thank you,

Me too! (hmm where's the loo).

I really like the sound of doing a 'wheelie' remake as it was one of my fave speccy games. Played it other day on speccy emulator and could even remember some of the level codes!! how sad is that!

I just read the rules, Doesn't look like my bag really, I woulda been interested if you could take extreme liberties with the remake but to faithfully remake a game to me seems pointless except as a learning excersize, updating graphics/sounds for an existing game you can do with utilities to rip/replace those from an existing rom, why bother to recode the entire thing? Finally, I already own most of the the prizes, but good luck to those who enter

ZX Spectrum 48k Issue 3, Radio shack Tape drive, Rank arena 12" T.V. set.

Yeah, if you already own DB/DBPro, can you get a different prize from DB, or do you just have to try and sell it on?

I started playing Soccer Rivals today to get screenshots and an idea of how it works, and I ended up playing it for about 6 hours.

Number 8:

Guess that means you can't swap it although DarkBASIC are usually very lenient on those type of things so you never know.
