I finally decided to knuckle down to some actual game dev, instead of more random modelling/texturing projects (which is why I haven't been around with freebies for a while - sorry!)

So far it's 100% custom media and 90% stock FPSC... I'll let you work that out for yourselves

Cheers

gps, this is one of the most fantastic piece of work I have using FPSC.

The custom stuff, level design looks perfect. What about the game? Story? Gameplay? Videos?

GPS - FANTASTIC!

Very nice Doom3-like feel you got going there! I'd like to ask, are you utilizing any normal mapping going on in those screenshots? Thanks!

Thanks for the kind words guys. I'm glad you're liking it

Quote: "The custom stuff, level design looks perfect. What about the game? Story? Gameplay? Videos?"

I'd like to say that I spent a considerable amount of time working out a complex and sophisticated storyline with numerous twists and turns leading up to a stunning climax... but that would be a lie of epic proportions

Here's how it kicks off...

After three days in the ship's auto-brig, you emerge to find the following note waiting for you...

Gameplay will be 40% shooting stuff and 60% problem-solving. Despite the slightly lighthearted tone of the game, I'm going to make you exercise your brain muscles a bit. Lateral thinking will be rewarded, as will diligent exploration. Oh, and there'll be lots of gory bits and gratuitous violence.

BTW filya, you sig speaks the truth.

Quote: "Very nice Doom3-like feel you got going there! I'd like to ask, are you utilizing any normal mapping going on in those screenshots? Thanks!"

I'm using illumination maps for the lights, everything else is just texturing. I can't get consistent results from any of FPSC's other shaders so I tend to leave them alone.

Quote: "It looks like a cross between Halo and Project: Snowblind...excellent!! I wanna see the custom weapons!"

As I said at the top of the thread, this is 90% stock FPSC, just re-textured, hacked, chopped, and recombined. The same goes for the weapons. However, I may be forced to concoct something original as I've turned the autoslug into a sidearm, and the Vickers into an assault rifle, which means I've got to come up with something new if I want a heavy weapon

Cheers

Yeah, I agree. The note is too happy. You should make it like a scrawl, and have him not finish writing the note or something.

I should perhaps point out that red|MIST is going to be a little bit less than entirely serious. I'm striving for a subtle mix of whimsy and ultra-violence. I decided against using a joke title because I'm not doing a flat-out spoof or Doom parody, but even 'red|MIST' is a dig at pretentious game titles. Why is half of it in capitals? What mysterious purpose if served by the odd punctuation mark?? Will 'MIST' turn out to be a horribly contrived acronym for some sinister military experiment???

Awsome! What happened to that uber-P90 you were making? With the new scope and all the other gizmos on it?

Oh, and the vickers is a World War I machinegun, I beleive...lol...funny how they put that in scifi, isn't it?

Anyways, good luck. Hard seeing the autoslug as a sidearm though

Hey graham. Good to see you getting some work out again
I know I read that your game was more of a "Toungue in cheek" (Less serious) Sci fi game, But I still think the font is too girly, and young. Also, the smiley face wouldnt be coloured in It should just be =).
Sorry if I copied anything, I didnt read the entire thread. Awesome looking interiors!

'Fraid the triple-rail P90 has been retired - making freebie weapons has become a bit problematic since hands on weapons started to become the norm. If I leave hands off for compatibility with stock FPSC weapons, then I immediately make them incompatible with model packs 5 and 6. But even the official model packs can't be used together because the hands and animation are entirely different - so do I emulate MP#5 hands, or MP#6? And then there's Errant AI's stuff which is entirely different again. Ack, too complicated! I think I'll just be sticking to regular entities from now on.

Quote: "I know I read that your game was more of a "Toungue in cheek" (Less serious) Sci fi game, But I still think the font is too girly, and young. Also, the smiley face wouldnt be coloured in It should just be =)."

Actually, the font on question is called 'Catholic Schoolgirl', so well... yeah. But that was what I was going for, something entirely incongruous. Also, in the future smart paper behaves like forum software - when it detects a colon and a closed bracket, it automatically displays a smiley just like that.

Quote: "Great work gps, can you post some of these into the TGC Gallery please?"

Yep, no problem.

Given my level of programing skills, it would be very easy to tell if I'd made this in DBPro, 'cause you'd be looking at a screenshot of an error message

NOOO!! At least finish that one, even if it doesn't get hands...you looked like you got so far on it, it looked awsome! I had a whole plan for it too...drat...and plus, people who really want it with hands can add them themselves, like I'm doing with stock weapons.

I'm happy with the p90 he already made and released but I can say that I would like this one too.I do understand why he doesn't want to mess with it though. When You know who releases his weapon pack we may all retire from the weapon making business.
On topic...this is an excellent job of reworking the stock stuff to your advantage and I am most impressed with it.

Yep, I used the scifi Military Corridor segments from FPSC, re-textured with a combination of Military Corridor, Service Corridor and Maintenance Corridor.
