heres a tip, if you want it to look ultra sleek try selecting all the vertices, pressing "w" and click on set smooth.

here is a pic of an M4 i made, before smoothing

the poly count is exactly the same on both, however the lighting in this scene stuffs up a bit, that can be fixed though

Ok, thank you. I know this is off topic but how did you make the hand in your M4 picture?

i took a photo of my own hand, and used ctrl+click to trace vertices around the photo, the arm is a bit weird at the moment because it goes from thick to really thin at the wrist

(i find that modelling of photos is the easiest way)

EDIT: and its half rigged for animation, i just need to rig the arm

Well I decided to Bump my thread because today I was messing around in Gimp using Filters and what else was there to see what they did. So I was looking through them testing them out and I made this... What do you guys think?

thats a pretty good texture, just create a new layer that is a certain colour and place it above that layer, then set the new layer as an overlay and your set!

i have been working an making a realistic grungy metal texture in photoshop, i havent made it from scrath though, i used the built in greyscale metal texture, then used the technique i mention above before adding the grunge by using a brush that is spread out over a large are and is made up of different sizes, rotations, and transparencies

I'll keep this in mind.

Whenever try to use the ctrl+click on an image it doesn't make any vertices.

what i do is create a plain and delete all but 1 vert, i then position that plain at the starting point for my trace and ctrl+click then, sry i should have said that the first time

I tried and it worked thanks. I've been messing around with Gimp again and I think I found a cool way to make blood splats. I think I'm getting the hang of Gimp and Blender's UV mapper and well also blender.

very nice models.

I also think its time you had a go at UV mapping.

If you can do your barrel and dumpster your on a winner.

Yeah I'm going to start off with the barrel because it's easiest to unwrap in blender.

Well, like I said, here's a screeny of the Mac 10 (not finished). It's a normal render nothing special.
