Exactly as the post title says.

By this weekend I should be done creating my countach. So with that being said im going to need a new project to work on.

here's the thing what ever car seems to be the most popular among you users will be my next project.

What I would like to see are reference pics. creating any model is hard to do without them so, If you'd like your car to be created atleast spend a little time to search out some reference pics. As this is one thing I should not need to do from a request.

What ever car is to be created from this post will be put up in this post for d/l after it is finished. Keep in mind though I am no expert and will take a week or two from the date that I start the model. so be patient!

Lotus Elise or Mazda RX 8 - they're interesting to model - I found the Elise relatively easy to work around and there are good blue prints and reference images laying around

I've started searching out some blueprints and pics to these cars.
I'll be starting this model tommorow after I get home from work.

up till now all the suggestions were different till roxas posted.
which is good cause I did'nt want to choose the car. lol
so seeing that the lotus elise was mentioned twice, that'll be the car I do. As I said in the first post I am no expert so seeing the curves of this car I think will be a good challenge for me.

I will be posting pics to keep you'se updated on its progress.

If anyone has any suggestions feel free to mention them.

Actually with practise you can. For me, I just found the right tutorials for the program I am using. Which was good cause they help in a huge way.
don't know what program your using but I bet with the right tutorials you could probably do the same thing.

Car modelling is pretty easy really.. Just find tutorial and use blueprints (Just dont use box modelling to cars.. If u use final results arent always so good and u get higher polygons.. Instead of box modelling use plane modelling..)

Altough i dont know what method tatts use..

Actually this one started as a single box, then split in half and deleting one half and the backface of the half that will be work with. (more or less becomes a plain anyway)
Cars and characters rather almost anything is easy to model using mirror modeling, you only work with half the model then mirror it to complete the model.
My lamborghini's I used a plain to make those two. did the same thing worked with half the car mirrored it then added the decal and finishing touches after the two halves were welded together.

A good place for tutorials for most 3d modelers is on the 3d buzz site. I'd check it out if you don't already know about it.

Yes i use mirrors.. But most ppl prefer plain modelling more on cars.. On characters i prefer box modelling tough

Doh! I even commented in that thread. It came out awesome btw. The tough thing about these other cars, is the organic curves througout the body. If you want to stay away from them for a bit, and gradually move to organic... I would suggest

Well im back at it this morning, I started working on the interior and also trying to smooth out some sharp areas and clean it up abit.

How many poly's would you think is a good number for a car with this amount of curves? So far up till now it is 2874 poly's and I havent started on the wheels yet. which hopefully I can do today.

Also today I am going to start working out a texture for it too. mind ya it'll only be a basic one much like a colour pallete. but it'll be textured.

Its looking very nice!! But i think that 5086 is too big polycount for that detail still.. It looks complex car but i still think it can be lower.

This tutorial is in 3ds max and its used to make high polygon cars with plane modelling but it can be used making low poly too

I think this tutorial will help u model with this style in any 3d modelling packgage.. Or just find same style tutorial on ur 3d modelling packgage!

http://www.evermotion.org/tutorials/modeling/car_modeling_max/

Anyways i suggest u to try this if it makes bigger or same polycount then forget it

Actually JimB just pointed out in another post that I don't have to triangulate my models during the export which is what I was doing. Therefore without the triangulation my model turned up being just over 2400 poly's. Is that better? But then on the other hand, In one post I was reading, which was my mustang or something like that by lava man and if I remember right, that model was over 70,000 poly's so in reallity 5000 is still a very small count.

but thanks for the suggestions and the link. im sure the link will help out some.

My last post brings up a point in mind. If you can save a modal in quads rather then them being triangulated. What is the difference between the two if the vertice count remains the same.
Is there a difference? and looking at my model, I can't really see much I can take away from it without it killing the looks of the car. If anything, I would have to say add another 5000 poly's and make it look really good. Don't forget! this car has an interior that has not been worked much on at the moment.

If anyone has any opinions of what they think I should do from here feel free to speak.

Ok I got up and once again went to work on my Lotus. It's mostly finished. The Interior is not complete, and there is no animation.

Not sure if I am going to complete the interior right away or not.
But for now, I will release it for d/l for you'se to check out.
I think it looks great in dbpro. hope you'se do to.

I don't mind if this model is used in a commercial game or application. But you may NOT sell it individually or as part of any type of model package. This Model is intended to be completely FREE AND NOT FOR SALE BY ANYONE. If you decide to edit it which I will allow YOU still are not permitted to sell it. The base Model is mine, other than that enjoy.
