I thought the lava in the stock FPSC folders was animated (when you turn on shaders. That's not really new.

Yep. I want to see more screenshots and what others can do with it before I decide.

Best.

Just a Little room I did with some off the new segments from the scfi section.

Just to show that with the newer segments it helps get away from the box feel all the time.

The new segments are segments which allow you to make diagonal and slanted walls,3 kinds of ramps, etc.
These were designed to specifically increase the life of FPSC stock media and expand it.
You can also take the segments, copy them, rename them and retexture them so they match other segments as well.It wouldn't be that difficult.
This is the first model pack designed to complement and add to the actual stock media. This model pack is also cheaper than the other model packs.
I for one am glad TGC released it.
Just my two cents' worth...

Heh, all you need is a free modelling package and some knowledge of how to make primitive shapes and you have yourself a model pack 7

How do you get animated textures on segments?!? I really want to know that. I thought you couldn't use .Gif files.

It uses a decal, which has 4 rows and 4 collums. So there are 16 images in one, which FPSC numbers 1-16 and plays through them to produce animation.

Let's say someone just picked up FPSC,knows nothing about modeling or let's say someone has used FPSC,knows about modeling but doesn't have the time or desire to mess with making the extra segments. This isn't a bad deal IMO.
BTW I have model pack 7 and I like it.It might be worth menitoning that there is a broken floor segment as well so you can have gaps in the floor for those unsuspecting players playing your game.

Maybe its just me. I learn pretty fast, so if some thing comes out that is made up of basic segments, which is being charged for, then I don't see fit to pay for it.

Heh, I could basically make the same pack and release it for free. I wonder how TGC would feel about that, I guess they wouldn't be too happy, as no one would buy the proper one then.

I was honestly going to buy this, but because now that I know it's made up of basic primitives, I wont be.

That's probably because it's using the existing segment textures and all. Only new mesh's are in the file, I think.

Best.

I looked at the lava segment .fps file, and I think that the only thing that makes it move is the "ripple.fx" shader, I don't think that it moves without shaders turned on.....

Broken grass, eh? I'm not 100% sure but I think the grass in my backyard is actually organic - note the 'not 100% sure'

I think a lot of people are just going to be disappointed because it doesn't contain hundreds of hours worth of painstaking effort to make characters, weapons ect. sold at $20. The fact that we get all the stock media in the first place for $50-engine cost is amazing.

I bet S4 is right though - people who think outside the box and use these things well will probably get some good use out of it. Especially if your like me and can't run milkshape and FPSC at the same time at the moment. (stupid laptop )

Just got my copy, bit disappointed but I can use some of the segments as long as I can retexture. In time I may have done this myself but for £5 it has saved me time

You've got to have shaders turned on in order to see the animated lava.

I don't really think theres all that much up for debate here.

- For users with no modelling experience / new to FPSC this looks worth it for the money.

- For users with modelling experience / familiar with FPSC this is unecessary.

I think bearing in mind the quality of the other model packs 1-6 and benge's sprite pack, we should probably over look this as an optional extra for the minority rather than a must have for the majority.

The only thing I would like to see for future model pack releases is more communication between TGC and the community so that we know what to expect and don't waste time making something that doesn't need to be made or not making something that does.

I now think this should just have been a free update, it would have made a change to have an update to the models instead of the engine itself.
