If you do not have alot of money then milkshape is a good choice for modellers,
#1 it works with DBpro
#2 it has animation and you can record to avi
#3 it's cheap, For $20 american you most certainly are not going to find a better deal.

It's only a low poly editor but for gaming that is what you want anyway.
You can get blender for free if your are really broke. but in reality milkshape is by far easier to use.
But of course if your really serious about modeling, And you take the real time to learn about Blender, Blender will out do Milkshape in everyway possible.

Myself I use Gamespace, It's abit more costly comparing to Milkshape, But with gamespace you have alot more flexability and it too works well with dbpro.

I use Milkshape + Ultimate Unwrap 3D + Paint Shop Pro 9 for everything, and they allow me to do everything that I need for my project media. Milkshape is a great, simple piece of software with great model support and just the right set of features to be good for low poly game modeling.

The thing about Milkshape, besides being a good, proven solution for DBPro models, is the volume of tutorials available for it, it's a really great tool to learn in.

Ok now I know it should work. How do you create DarkBASIC Pro compatible models. Every time I Export in .X or .3ds they won't work.

You have to export to the following list item in the export list:

DirectX (JT)

If you export with that list item, you will be able to use the model in DBPRo.

Milkshape is definetly worth it.
You can model, UV map, animate, and more with it. Its the perfect tool.

It also has a built in poly reducer.
