Look guys, a video I made!

It's nothing fancy, just some basic movement tests with a tripod that I later added film grain too.

Very nicely done. I'm not sure at all, but don't a lot of films have the camera completely stationary to start the shot, then accelerate it to a certain speed then maintain that speed. Like this:

Thanks! And it totally depends on what the director is going for. Lots of shots can be started right in the middle of the movement, or some directors will choose to start it stationary and move the camera along with the action. It really just depends on what they're going for.

I didn't want to have a lot of boring static shots leading into up and down movement, so that's why I edited them down to just the moving parts. That, and anytime I started to move the camera the tripod jiggled and everything shook pretty badly. I have to find a way to solve that little problem!

That's pretty cool! I've been wanting to try some simple cinema-style shooting/editing recently, but I just haven't had the time. Plus, like you, I only have a tripod as a stabiliser.

Thank you Clonkex!

It is indeed challenging to only have a tripod for a stabilizer, but I didn't let it stop me!

I plan to do another shoot just as soon as it snows. I should be able to get all kinds of interesting shots then!

I uploaded a better edit of the footage here on MediaFire. I recommend you download the footage in order to see it play in top quality!

I had to upload it in 720p though, otherwise the file size would have been at least 2.5x greater than the 697MB!

Yes indeed.

I really don't understand why bona fide companies make it so difficult for their customers. Every time I buy a new bit of equipment, e.g. digital camera or external disk drive etc etc, I have to watch very carefully to ensure it doesn't install some completely unnecessary additional software when I first connect it.

"philae"? "rosetta"? Really? Who thought up these names, they're incredibly suspicious.

Anyway, I ate a rosetta today. It was pretty tasty.

If you translate that into Swiss-German and back again, you get: "Anyway, I ate ass today".

I have (finally ) tallied the votes from the banner voting thread! I will publish the results tomorrow. There are a couple groups where two banners tied.

Here are the individual banners, with the corresponding number of votes against them:

What shall we set the limit to? I am thinking any banner with up to 2 votes shall be placed into circulation, and any banner with more than 2 votes shall not be.

Here are the results of the banner contest! All of the banners listed either received the majority vote for a group, or received 2 or less votes in the individuals category, and will be placed into circulation.

The image numbers in this image do not correspond to the image numbers in the contest.

I will put these all in a zip file, and email them to someone... Who should I email the images to?

When I started hitting 6GB usage with a normal working load(Firefox, 1 VM, Thunderbird, LoL) I decided I needed to upgrade. Now I can give my VM 2-4 GB no problem.

I'm hoping to do that soon as well. So much for those who insist you'll never need more than 4GB. It's really easy to use it all up just with Chrome, and then if you try to open a game as well...

My brother bought an SSD a week ago, and now I have the money so I've bought one as well (same as his - Samsung 840 Evo 250GB) if only because I'm so sick of waiting for BF4 maps to load (now that I own BF4). Should've been here yesterday but wasn't... Now I have to wait 'til Monday...

If someone is young enough to be offended by that, chances are they are also too young to understand what it means, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

The problem is not whether they are offended by it or even whether they understand it. I generally say that if an innocent/naive child were to read it out loud within earshot of a parent, and said parent is likely to be horrified/upset by what they hear, it should not be on here. The fact that I've allowed them to remain should tell you that they're just borderline.

The Oatmeal comic in question borderline encourages piracy(I know it doesn't but it makes a legitimate(to some) case for it). TGC takes a pretty strict stance on that kind of thing.

Ha, I used up 4GB with Firefox and VS open at the same time much less anything like a VM or actually running a complicated compile. I wish I was on W7 back when I was on 4GB, I'm curious just how many page faults a second I was causing due to lack of RAM/cache.

There is also a certain C-word in the strip. Not a word that offends me, it's a word I use daily. I also know people in our part of the world find it less offensive than others (that said, people find it offensive). Of course not so much a case that people may find it offensive but that the forum is meant to be, I suppose, like a PG-13 movie due to the range of audiences attracted and it supposed to be accommodating in that respect.

I would argue the exception would be where there's reasonable warning (this link contains swearing) and it still fits in with the AUP. This way, to my mind it puts the responsibility on the user and not the poster.

Ugh, I went back in time on the forum to look for some old threads I posed 5+ years ago.

Oh, what a n00b I was, using improper grammar, posting multiple threads a day and generally looking like I just didn't give a darn about it all.

Those were the days
