I'm getting this error here:

I'm not quite sure what I did wrong. I downloaded the updated DarkEdit from the thread by TDK.

Also this reminds me, is there any other compiler type programs like DarkEdit out there?

EDIT

Got it, just changed the directory.

However, does anyone know of another editor?

I think there's something called CodeKeeper.

For CodeKeeper common controls you can try:

Common Controls Downloads

Though Code Keeper may use earlier versions.

I think Code Keeper is really nice.

Also, I've used a series a different editors for DarkBASIC. The thing is, they have to be set up. The help files will tell you how. For large projects where I have to look at multiple scripts at once (like if I have the main program and a bunch of #include libraries I need to look at) I use source edit. It has a nice hex editor included with it and a scripting language/editor to create your own tools with. It also has a color selector (big deal huh?)

Source Edit

Crimson Editor is light weight, quick, and get's the job done. I used to use it for larger projects, but I like source edit a little better. This one is good though because it has so little overhead. The language highlighting is a little tricky to set up.

Crimson Editor

But DarkEdit is my first choice when I want to put something together quickly.

Ultra Edit is an editor I used to use at work. I thought it was one of the best text editors. I haven't used it in years but it probably has improved. Somewhere on the DarkBASIC forums I recall someone had setup a syntax highlighter for dark basic.

Ultra Edit

Enjoy your day.

You might also want to check out TDK's editor. It is a work in progress, but when it's finished it looks like it will have a lot of nice features - and you won't have to set it up like some of those other text editors. It's specifically designed to be used with DarkBASIC:

I get that error, too. You have to save the darkbasic file, then run it. It cannot run things that aren't saved!

how do you make a sig?

You can now. That's one of the things that Ron fixed in DBC V1.2.0.

If you fire up Windows Explorer and navigate to the root of drive C: then look down the list of folders, one thing you will not see is C:\My Documents.

Since XP was introduced, My Documents has always been located in the root folder 'Documents And Settings'.

DarkEdit was written to be used in older versions of Windows, so the default path needs to be changed - the same goes for DarkIDE and I assume all the other DBC IDE's.

So, run the IDE, go to Edit on the menu and select Edit Options. Next click on the DarkBASIC Options tab and check what it says in the bottom box marked 'Default Startup Path'.

My guess is that it still says C:\My Documents.

Change that to somewhere that actually exists. (Mine points to a folder called 'DB Projects' in my My Documents folder).

Sorry TDK but I was talking about CodeKeeper. It gives me an error, it tells me that CPOPMENU.OCX is not correctly registered. I really have no idea what it means...

Yes it can

uncheck those boxes and it will run without requiring a save
