Hi,

I was originally thinking of starting up a new multiplayer club for FPSC gamers.

However, after talks with corky, we've now decided to move it up a notch, and create a fully-blown FPSC site o' nutritious goodness. Features to be included in this site are:

- Models and media
+ 3d models
+ sounds
+ etc.

- Showcase games
+ Games that FPSC users can submit
+ a rating system
+ reviews
+ downloads
+ etc.

- Multiplayer club
+ Brand new "current players" system - displays the number of playing users on the game's webpage, so you can decide whether to play or whether to try later without having to wait for long load times.
+ User submitted maps
+ reviews
+ video gallery (i.e. you pwning some other player, etc. )
+ etc.

- Community
+ A place for developers and players to chat and talk
+ rankings system (earn more points and download bonus games!)
+ etc.

What do you think?

EDIT:

FROM NOW ON:

IF YOU WANT TO CONTRIBUTE TO THIS PROJECT IN ANY WAY THEN PLEASE SEND ME AN EMAIL SAYING WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP!.

This is simply because we've had people spending their own time and hard work on stuff which has already been done and sorted...

Thank you,

~ Jack

EDIT: Meh, it's gone... I disappeared for a few months and now it's locked...

People have tried doing this before, it works for about a month and then usually dies out. You would have to make a game like halo to get people to stay. I would join but I would lag really bad, so sorry I cant. I might be able to make a game for you. I think im gonna, even if you dont want it!

Wow, thanks Corky for your game dev skills on offer. Sounds good. I'm thinking about trying this idea. But I'll see what other people say.

Corky, that's a generous offer of you. What are your skills?

I'd be pretty determined for this idea to work out and last long enough. If we got it enough publicity then I'm sure we could get a few members. There could be a ranking incentive, i.e. the more posts you have on the community forum you could download special levels etc. That's just a thought.

Why did the other sites fail? Was it just lack of interest?

I know you said you'd have to make a game worthy of Halo, but perhaps if we had enough variety and choice in the levels you could get then it might be more popular.

Keep the ideas coming!

There pretty basic skills like html xml flash, and some java, some php to. Never tried to learn cgi or anything, I guess I could try that to.

I cant pay for a domain though, so we could get a sub domain or you could pay for it.

games like Halo have pleanty of variety, make a game that big studios cant, the only games they cannot make is in theme and risk, so for example an adult themed game, or just off the bat in terms of theme or a small niche audience, they dont make these as they are a risk to the pub and dev, so you have to do it that way to be different and perhaps get an audience for what you are doing.

If you look at what small indie film makers do, they either make themes the big studios dont, ie some personal character driven film, or they go for something way out or for a niche audience, like say a film for a sub culture say like goths, or some thing explotative, like I dont know, zombie hell chicks from space, or island of the lesbian vampires, something real goofy like that. Or even something in bad taste or extreeme, like those horror films of the 70s that was banned for a long time, well in the UK anyway.

Ta corky.

@Fallen one: Sorry, didn't notice your post up there, I missed it. I do agree with what you're saying about going for a smaller but more direct audience... but I'm not sure yet. I was thinking this would be different because, as well as shooting down your friends, you also can talk to them in a "friendly " way on the community forum or whatever after your multiplayer match, for example. It brings together people in two ways, in the gaming world, and together online.

I have deleted posts here and re-opened the thread for the time being and will keep a watch on what develops.

Thank you very much uman!

Whilst this thread was locked and issues were being resolved, myself and corky have been talking about this idea more seriously. We've now decided to move the idea about a bit. We now think that, instead of just being a multiplayer club, it'll now be a whole fpsc site in itself - like a showcase of people's work. Think of it like fps-files.com but it's more than just media downloads - it's a community, a showcase site (where FPSC developers can submit their games for download, have them reviewed, etc.) and a community, all in one: like the "ultimate fpsc site".

It'll take a lot of hard work but I think we could do it. I've already got a template and I'm modifying it.

All we need now is a name!

if you have any ideas for a name for the site please tell us what you think we could have!

Thanks!

~ Jack

Note: I'm not trying to "rip off" fps-files or anything. This is something different. I'm not here to spoil other people's work - fps-files.com is great for models and media - the site I'm planning just does other stuff as well, instead of "specialising" in models etc.

There was some confusion over something I mentioned in a post. Someone mistook it for me saying something about something else, long story, I won't go into it - but either way, they just misunderstood, and now everything's fine.

On another note, I've now prettymuch fully remodelled the template for the site. all we need is a NAME! Hint hint! I really can't think of anything for it right now, which is a bit silly - it's like writer's block. But it's programmers block. Gah!

No dont buy a domain use freewebs and then google dot tk.
It will make yoursite.tk instead of .com for free. Just make and account and have put your freewebs site into .tk to make it w/e.tk

We bolth know who's ganna win this fight, so just give it up!
Lets save some time and just let me 0wn!

I know about .tk, but it's rather unprofessional and shows ads and stuff in a top frame - also lots of filters block it as well. I realise this ain't gonna be the worlds best site in the world, but tbh i really don't mind paying about £6/$12 per year for a .com.

I might use freewebs, but I've already made about half the site... So there's no point...

I think on the multiplayerpart there should be "Multiplayergame of the week/month" and at the end of the week/month there should be a competition, someone that will be a judge start up a server or more and looks after the game and then tell who won.
Then the 1st 2th and 3rd player get points to a score list. And then the player who gets most points after 4weeks/6months or something will recive a modelpack.

Maybe that would keep people to the site.

And if you want I could offer myself to do something, send me an email if you want me.

WOAH WOAH WOAH! EVERYBODY STOP!

What the hell is going on here?!?!?

Sorry to be so blunt. I appreciate help from EVERYBODY - I really do! But...

I greatly appreciate everyone's efforts to help. However...

- I can, and have already, designed the site - so no more site designing offers from anyone unless it's to do with things like scripts etc. (for site features, i.e. multiplayers online)

- Whilst everyone's help is greatly appreciated, I ALREADY HAVE A FORUM SETUP AND PROFESSIONAL HOSTING so I'm sorry, but I don't need any more offers.

- I will be paying for a .com domain name in due time. Maybe a .co.nr, but most likely a .com. To be honest I really don't care that you can get .co.nr for free. Sorry everybody.

@Black Rebel Heart: Thank you for setting up a forum, but, I don't really know how to explain this, erm, maybe if you'd told me you were going to be so keen to help then I would have warned you that I already had a forum setup on the same domain as the site - so I would've told you not to bother.

Sorry everyone: If you really do want to contribute in some way, please EMAIL ME!

Thank you everyone. Sorry to have to rant, but I don't want people doing a load of stuff then realising it's already been done...

I can fix HTML errors, or make pages or something.
I have my own website to maintain, so I'm pretty busy.

Hmmmm. I don't know about payment yet. Obviously just uploading your models or free games or whatever would be free for anyone. However, maybe if you wanted to sell your commercial games off the site, perhaps I'd take like a small royalty fee off profit made from your games being sold off the site? For example, if you sold a game for £10, we'd take £1 from that because we hosted the game and got it sold off the site... does that seem fair?

10% of a games price sounds reasonable to me. Yet I have no idea what other people think about this.

And even if we host the game and use another payment (like paylodz) you could take around 10% for hosting the link and such things on your site (everything excpet the game and the payment).
