The time is near. As I type this post Lemur V2 Build Number 91 is compiling, ready to shine a light on the FPSC community during these cold and dark times during winter. I now have a question for you, the community. Before I ask the question let me run some things across your foreheads and into your brain.
I have spent nearly 236 hours (yes, I keep a log) producing both of the Lemur versions, not counting in those hours the time I spent looking at the source (I've scrolled through all 28693 lines more than 6 times) I have worked through sickness, many late nights and early mornings working on the release.

As for my question- what would YOU price a FPSC "update" at. Yes I know Lee releases his for free, but he DOES get paid for them.
Granted, I am just a modder, a dreamer, a regular FPSC user just like the rest of you, but my pending release, and future work will open the window shade on FPSC, letting in sunlight to spur trains of thought in your heads that have never had the chance to run their course.

I have not made up my mind, whether or not to charge for the update, however charging for it alone is not allowed by TGC, so if I do charge for it, it will be accompanied by a fantastic multiplayer game, thus providing an excellent example of what you may produce, using Lemur V2.

As for replies to this post, I would much appreciate your views as for the price and or reasons for or not charging for Lemur V2.

Thank You

I think if it came with a multiplayer map, it should be about 20$ US. I'm not sure how many Euros that is, considering it's literally half a world away from me... Lemur is looking fantastic and is worth at least 20$. If you want to charge more for it, I'll scavenge up some money from some where and buy it, because I really, really want it.
Thanks for making FPSC better.

Thanks for the conversion. I live on the West Coast of the US, so I don't know how much the Euro is compared to the dollar. I guess I could have Googled it... Oh well. Anyway. I think that Lemur is worth every cent.

with many new features...therefore not to cheap in my opinion...
also looking at the hard work you did...

Maybe 20 USD or maybe more...its finally up to you.

i know that a lot of people would like to have it free like me ,but it is imposible because you put a lot of time and work for this and price is not important the only important thing is what you think of your product .if you think you made good job put a price tha goes with your hard time and work.

I hope that i dont insult somebody in this post.

I thought your not allowed to sell mods as they are based off of the copyrighted FPSC engine?

If that isn't the case then $20 ain't bad, as it's about £10 on my side of the pond.......

A week and I'd have that much money spare.

Will TGC build off this mod? I'm concerned that the next official update wouldn't be compatible.

Taking a break... Be back soon.

I doubt lee would be interested in my code, unless you, the community asked for it to be used as what he builds off. I certainly will continue making updates, building off this code.

I like the way you work Urlforce, your commitment and your pre-release customer support is something that should be noted. 28693 lines more than 6 times and still going strong.
I say do what you think is best. the suggestion of $20 u.s. is fine by me. However either way you decide I will be supporting this all the way.

SP Question/ EDIT: too easy.

@coffee grunt - its a multiplayer map, the engine mod will be included.

Single player maps are treated the same way as multiplayer maps, so yes you will have all the same updates.

The post you are looking for is the same as the one you found that info on. But as it's location is hush hush, so lets keep it that way (today I added parental controls)

The way I understand it, TGC is supposed to begin working on FPSC again in February, integrating some of the advances in X10 as well as updates and features as suggested by users. If FPSC does such an update, how long will it be before they release the source again?

$20.00 is minimal for the amount of time and work you've put into it, but would we be buying something that would be quickly outdated, and passed by due to updates from TGC? For instance, if they integrate DarkAI, would we be giving that up to use your mod, and for how long?

Best.

Outdated, or rivaled jk. Anything TGC releases, as soon as I get the source, which hopefully would be quicker than sources past, I would implement the new features. Remember- I am a FPSC user too- I want new updates, but I also want the little things added, that are absent from TGC updates.

Even when TGC releases a update with dark ai, or dark physics I will just have to cut and paste my updates into theirs, and it will be fully compatible.

I think $20 is priced just right for such a fantastic mod! You need a little break Urlforce. You've been working yourself off so hard for something very, very amazing. You deserve to get money earned for something like this!

My only concearn is as stated by others what about the new updates, but ofcourse you mentioned working on them soon as new updates sources are available. After all the insanely great work you put into it $20 seems like an extremely fair price. With third person and vehicles ready, I would go $30.

In case you missed it.

"Is there a list of new features/fixes that are in your mod?"

Will there be explanations of what they do and how to use them?

Sorry, if this was posted somewhere else.

Yeah, there is a slightly outdated list here: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=120477&b=21

Also, there is more information and a lemur contest over at IGD.Net.

Sorry about my earlier post, didn't read the part about adding an MP map into the deal to make it work with the AUP.

Yes, Storm you've missed something.

The license says (and I've had to point this part out to Urlforce MANY a time) that it's illegal to sell a modded version of the game engine AS AN ENGINE.

Urlforce will clearly be "providing" the modded engine as part of a commercial multiplayer game.

On a side note: I have a hard time believing that Lee would "work off of" Urlforce's mod, mainly due to the fact that TGC doesn't initially code the FPSC engine in DBP, they code it in a different programming language, hence why we don't get source code releases for every update. I think I recall someone saying that somewhere, I believe Lee said it in an email, but I could be mistaken. In order to release a DBP source for the community (or Urlforce, w/e happens ) Lee or someone else would need to sit down and convert all their code into DBP code and also document / organize / clean up everything so that it will be nice, pretty, and easy to read for us coders.

TGC really does think of how what they do is going to effect us. And the time interval for paying this close attention to our feelings/wants/needs may or may not take a while. (Just a heads up, I suppose)

TGC do do the updates in DBP, as UrlForce built lemur V2 from the V1.07 source.

Thank you, I am quite aware of the fact that lemur V2 is modded from V1.07 (And have been aware of this for over a month now).

But tell me something. If V1.07 of FPSC was working just fine when it was released... how is it... that the DBP source for V1.07 took so long to be released to us? Also, I might make a note here, Lee needed to "test" the DBP source code for V1.07 immediately before releasing it to us officially... Why would he need to do that if it was already programmed in DBP and hence, READY to be released long long ago?

.
.
.

I think the answer's clear.

Well, I'm only allowed to buy official TGC stuff. But maybe I could make a model pack and trade it for a copy of Lemur? I'm not the best modeler, but I can make some segments as well.Would you guys (the Lemur team) be willing to accept a custom model pack in return for Lemur?

UrlForce,

As a begining coder and a FPSC user I feel you have to be the man to ask the price. I feel if you keep it fair to all the dedicated FPSC users it will be fine. The average game anymore runs 30-50 US dollars. You can't undermine your own time or the ideas and coding that you have put in this project. It looks really incredible. I will be one of the first to click my paypal button when it is available. Playstire's videos at YouTube are amazing. Thank you so much for all your contribution to the FPSC world. This Mod will definately deserve a BOTB award and will be worth every penny spent on it.
