Can You Sell A Home Made Game In A Shop???

Hi,

ive been thinking that if you make a game that you can sell it in a shop and it wouldent be expensive or a time waster.
I mean it does have its ups and downs but im sure you can do it.
i mean the shops still sell games for sega so who cares about the graphics, they sell games for $2 so who cares about the price.

That's what I thought, but FPSC is already rated by ESRB. Meaning that it's games are as well. Unless you added stuff excluding violence, like swearing.

Once again, not true. The rating for FPSC is for it's current content in the state it was sold. They cannot anticipate what you will do with or add to the engine.

You can sell your games in any store that will sell them for you, and in any package they will accept. That being said, you will have a better chance with an ESRB rated game in professional packaging. You will have to ask the store owner what his requirements are. Obviously, major corporate stores won't sell your game on a home-made CD-R disk with a paper sleeve, but some stores may. Most likely you will find some smaller stores that will sell it if you dress it up a bit and meet their requirements.

Best.

he's right it costs a lot to rate a game also you must provide cheats
why don't you just sell it on the internet there is more chance people will buy as i bet there is more users on the interent then at your local store

Yes, you have to include any easter eggs, mini-games, cheats, ect.

I think the ESRB offers a reduced rate of $800 for games that have a development budget of $250,000 or less. (which should be any FPSC game)

That is what I do, but there are still laws that pertain to that as well.
It sounds like he needs legal advice, which I am not qualified to give.
Check your local laws to see what the requirements are, since they vary from place to place.

I agree with you though that there are many game titles in stores being sold commercially that are inferior to some of the games I have seen that were made with FPSC.

Many easter eggs or cheats include "explicit" features not found in the game, i.e. a friendly enough platformer might have a cheat that removes characters clothes or some other such madness... if a 4 year old child found out how to do this...
