I am interested in the program but am concerned about a purchase since the web site seems unchanged since 2003.

Making nothing for the forth straight year; or is it five years now?

well, i purchased it about 2 years ago and no longer use it because it is no longer supported. the guy who made it dissappeared many years ago right before an update was supposed to be released, so its quite buggy in some areas. id say: Buy at your own risk! of course, it's only $20, so its not like it was a huge loss or anything

I bought it about a year ago. I'm very happy with it and haven't had any problems. I found it pretty easy to learn, too, what with all of the tutorials floating around and the advice that can be found in these forum pages. Good luck.

EDIT

jason, I see you posted while I was writing mine. What areas did you think were buggy? I've used it for pretty simple things: simple walk cycles and swinging doors, that sort of thing. If it is buggy for more complex animations, maybe I had better start looking for something else.

I know it is good software just by the number of people who recommend it. I am concerned about it being no longer updated or the lack of a forum, that I can find anyway.

@DBoy: ya, there is no forum anymore...

@Noonster: i had problems loading objects that weren't triangulized. that wasn't much of a problem because lithunwrap could do it for me, but it was annoying. but i also had exporting problems where the models were completely destroyed and polygons were just flying around no matter what i did. and it did it half the time, so i started to give up... and it gets really laggy with any objects with more than 5000 polys. even though my pc could clearly handle it, the program would get really laggy and make my work twice as slow. so, now im looking for other means of animating my models

Thankfully there are other options that I can feel comfortable with. I already own Milkshape and am working with Blender so I will shy away from CharacterFX. Sorry to see a good program fall by the wayside though, based on what jasonhtml has said.

Thanks for your replies.

thanks for the memory jog JimB.
I knew there was another program; that when I last looked was still being developed, but I could not remember its name or find it in any of my mis-worded searches. I will be looking at that program since it still is in development, and do a comparison to the Milkshape animator tool and see if it is worth the purchase price. It looks like it might be right off the bat.

Thanks everyone
Don

PS.

Fragmotion feature set looks impressive
