RAM is a big thing towards making apps and games running smoothly, but what if you have an obsolete amount of RAM?

Tech Specs:

ATI Radeon 9600 TX
Pentium 4 CPU 2.6ghz
and 512mb RAM

I can run fpsc games at a minimum of 1fps to a maximum of 25, will i require any more RAM? say, 768mb or even 1gb?

Im a new user, im young and FPI-dyslexic, i simply dont have the foggiest and cant learn FPI, so copy and paste code snippets please!

The more the merrier when it comes to RAM.
Simply put, you can't have too much, so fill your banks to the max if you can.
Some of the older RAM is quite inexpensive if you shop around or get it second hand.

Try to add some more virtual memory. This thread will give you the instructions: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=122178&b=21

See if adding more virtual memory helps.

Doesn't the amount of Ram you can use depend on whether you have a 32 bit or 64 bit operating system? I was under the impression that the maximum amount of memory your pc could access under a 32 bit operating system was 2 Gig. If you wanted to install more than 2 Gig you had to have a 64 bit operating system. Or am I totaly wrong about that?

The maximum amount usable with a 32-bit CPU is technically 4GB, but since part of the address space maps to other memory such as GPU memory, in practice it's less.

No, it's just alot slower. It will be fine using the page file.

So to access more than 4GB of memory requires a 64 bit CPU regardless of how much memory the motherboard is capable of holding? I assume then that you also have to have a 64 bit operating system such as vista 64 or xp professional 64?

Yes to both. A 32-bit processor can only address 2^32 bytes (4294967296, or 4GB).

Here is a good explanation.

Notice that the 3GB switch is for Intel processors only. Changing your Boot.ini can cause your compter to boot incorrectly or not at all. Always create a restore point before making system changes.

Best.

With a 64 bit machine you can now theoretically have 17,179,869,184 GB of Ram

Hate to have to pay for it though

Crucial 2GB PC8500 DDR3 1066MHz Memory = $279.99 about $2,405,095,790,000.00 US in order to max out what it can handle.
