Hi All!

I completed my new Freeware project in DB, a 3d racing game.
Drive your car on 4 tracks, you may compete in the Championship, too, and try to win the title! You may choose City or Sport car classes,
ReadMe file with info and keys included.
I added a joypad support, too!
Enjoy!

here the download page (about 10Mb .zip file):

And here an in-game image:

nice racer, AlexRiva! i ran the championship once through and found the game to be very fun and definitely challenging as UCA has a distinct style/approach that i look forward to mastering some day (well, atleast in rookie mode ). congrats on completing this project and thanks for sharing it with us!

Nice game. A couple of improvements I would suggest:

1. Overtaking is a very difficult thing, because the other cars are too unpredictable - they move from side to side for no apparent reason.

2. The collision area is very large - if you get within about 6 feet of a vehicle you hit it.

But all in all, it's a very good game. And it's a complete game! That puts you in the top 1% of coders here!

I did that to simulate a real driver dirty moves to prevent overtaking. I could insert an option to add or remove that ("nasty AI" or something), since I like this kind of AI movement but some of my friends find, as you did, these moves annoying.

You mean in side to side collision, I think. Yes, that needs to be fixed.

Thanks! Indeed this is my 8th full game completed in DB, so I should be in the top 0,1% really!

BTW: would you consider to insert a review or an article about Used Cars Arena in the next TGC Newsletter? That would be awesome!

Downloaded the demo, and its pretty good, got a bit engrossed and ended up doing a championship. I think my comments pretty much match that of Batvink - on some of the tracks, espcially the bendy ones, passing is almost near impossible as the AI bumps into you. This would probably work better with some better collision code.

Nice work though!

That's very good, and very playable. You have just enough of a speed advantage over the computer cars to catch up when you make a mistake, which is great. The camera works well too.
I don't mind the swerving cars in front of you as it adds a bit more difficulty and you have to leave enough of a gap or undertake round a bend to get around. The large collision area is a bit of a drawback though.
Adding something on the horizon might be very cool if you can, even if its just silhouettes to make the location seem more realistic. Just a thought.

Thank to you all! Nice to see such a positive feedback!

Uhm... from the comments this seems to be the main issue to fix. All right, I'll do that!

I'm really proud of reading this , since I put a lot of efforts on AI and race testing, trying to have a correct balance between playability and difficulty. BTW the proportion Human Car max speed:AI Car max speed is about 6.1-6.2 : 5.9

Bad parts:

1. Countdown too slow.
2. Track "peices" too large compared to the cars.
3. Collision is a little off.
4. Cars too hard to predict, making them harder to overtake.

Good parts:

1. Driving itself was fun.
2. Tracks were nice.
3. Cars looked nice.
4. Graphics were ok.
5. It was a full game!

Grade out of 5: 3!

Good comments, here the detailed answers:
1. Right. I added this, too, to my "fix" list
2. that's because these are toycars!
3. That's the main issue, as mentioned before, I added to my to do list
4. As said before, this is related to personal gameplay taste, so I'm going to leave it unchanged since I like this kind of "nasty pilot" car moves
