piXX3D's Model Thread: Works in Progress, Free Models, and TGC Store Releases!

Hey, y'all!

Some of you may have seen me around here before. I was called "Cipher Software", but due to daily requests from random strangers asking me to encipher their, ahem, let's just say "explicit stuff" from their spouses, (I'm not making this up!) I've had to drop all the Cipher stuff. People mistook me for someone else; I've had requests asking for "2 copies of the cypher softwrr frm the boeing compny", "do you sell the cipher software from boeing?", etc. etc. I always thought Boeing was an airline. Oh well!

Anyhoo! Down to business! Lately I've been dabbling a bit in making 3D models and stuff. It started as just a little experiment to see what I could do, and although I haven't made much I still really enjoy making what I can.

The programs I use to make my models, textures, etc. are:

Caligari gameSpace - I mostly use this for the model-making
Milkshape 3D - I use this for animating, I could never fathom out how to model in this though
Ultimate Unwrap 3D/UVMapper - UV Mapping, but I'm still indecisive about which one's better. I have a trial of UU3D ATM so I'll soon have to make a choice
GIMP - Ah, good ol' GIMP. I do most textures and image editing with this great free tool.
DDS Converter - To convert what GIMP can't

I'm currently experimenting with:
CB Model Pro - for mucking around making organics with

So that's what I make the models with. So, let's get started, yes?

On this main post I'll post my favourite stuff. Enjoy! Comments and criticism please. Don't forget I haven't been doing this very long so sorry, it won't be professional standard . What you see on this post is my favourite stuff - scroll down for more things as they are released.

Models released in the TGC Store:

Below are a few of my favourite models I've released onto the TGC Store. You can download my stuff from the PiXX3D folder!

1: Wet Floor Sign
A simple model, one of my first actually - 30 points. 512x512 texture.

Gravestone now online!
2. Gravestone: A weathered gravestone with "RIP" on it.

Work In Progress:

Currently, I'm working on something pretty cool: An awesome Autocannon! This automatic defense cannon is fully animated and will be scripted to rotate to face the player then shoot them down when they are within a certain distance. It's the first model I've animated, wahoo! Currently it's untextured, but that's something I'm probably working on as you read this! As soon as it's textured and in-game I'll release a video and put this on the store...

Edit: I've now finished texturing the Autocannon and Animating it... currently I'm getting it into FPSC and scripting the gun. Videos and screenies soon!

Pending models:

At the moment I have some models that either haven't yet been uploaded/released, or are awaiting approval from a store moderator. You can get a sneak peak here:

1. Crates: A quick preview of some fragile crates I'd made. These are going on the store, but not for much though since they are quite simple. There'll be small, medium, and large available, and if the store allows it I'll upload a package of all 3-in-1 for a reduced price.

Edit: I've managed to upload Crate Small and Crate Medium, however the store admin has found a little problem with my Crate Large that I'm unable to reproduce. We're looking into it and soon Crate Large will be online. Once I've sorted out the final crate, I'll upload all 3-in-1 for a cheaper price than the three individually

MORE TO COME VERY SOON! IF YOU LIKE MY STUFF THEN PLEASE TAKE A LOOK ON THE STORE. I AM STILL QUITE NEW TO FPS CREATOR 3D MODELLING SO PLEASE POST CONSTRUCTIVE COMMENTS AND CRITICISM. THANKS!

Hey, "Cipher". I seriously lol'd at what you said about your former name getting you odd requests from unknown people.

As for the models, they look quiet nice. The only crit I have is that the text on the crates stand out a bit, try giving it an overlay layer-effect or something similar. Darken/multiply might work too. Other than that, it's good stuff. Looking forward to seeing the finished version of the autocannon.

@POD, thats odd... They're showing up for me. Try reloading the page again and having another look. It may be a temporary offline time from the web host

If others get this error, I'll re-upload somewhere else.

Ta for the feedback Roger Wilco, I'll try and improve the crates tonight and have another go at them

Very nice models. As for the cannon I would deffenitly buy that. But only if you make it explode when its dead not disaper.

@GP Productions, sure, thanks for the suggestion. I'll give it an exploding kind of broken animation.

Which do you think would be best? Rotate to face player (more complex for me ) or aim straight? I'm thinking most normal defense turret cannon things can only aim straight, but it might be a little cooler if it rotated to the player. but I think I could fathom that out

Thanks for all your feedback

I've finished the base texture for the Autocannon - the model is now complete, so once I've got it into FPSC, animated and scripted, I'll show you guys a video and some screenies

Edit: Sorry for double posting... didn't see my one up there

That sounds cool. There was a turret thread in the scripts forum, maybe this would be just the right model... Or EAI's little robo-thing.
