To texture objects in blender, I have been using a UV selection to get the UV map. I have been trying out different ones, but when they appear, it is all messed up and I can't figure out which part is which.

Is there a UV mapping setting that makes a UV map that is easier to read? Like it has an actuall organization? Or am I just asking about the imposible?

Thanks.

Also, is there another way to texture objects in blender without UV mapping?

yeah..... That was the only other way I knew...

Wait, I have seen your models, and they have nice textures, what UV mapping selection do you use?

I have had the same issues, and I've asked for help with this before. Unfortunately, I'm still horrible at UV mapping even after I got advice on making seams.

You could try texture painting, then just draw each texture by hand onto the model. Probably not as precise, but definitely much easier.

Yah, but I need it precise....

Same here, it would be easier if blender just made one that was just a picture of the top, side, other side, front, back.... it would be much easier.....

Thanks though!

Wait, I think I finally understand how to use the seams and things..... I might actually have figured out how to get a good UV map!!

The one thing that I saw that helped me understand was this-
http://www.blender.org/development/release-logs/blender-234/uv-unwrapping/

When I read it, it said LSCM unwrapping. I could see the UV maps and they seemed organized. When I looked for that option in blender (version 2.46) it didn't have it!!

Do they still have it, but just renamed it?

Thanks.

for anyone reading this thread

make sure your in edit mode of your object

select the vertices with SHIFT+RIGHT CLCIK

press CTRL+E and click mark seam

once your happy with all your seams press A to select all your vertices make sure you have a second window up thats in the uv editor window then goto your 3d viewport and press U then click unwrap

and that is your uv mapping process for begginers

The new version of Blender (2.46) allows you to bake the blender textures to your uv map. Not sure if it was available in the previous releases.

Just unwrap the UV's and press CTL+ALT+B in the 3d window and select texture from the bake menu.
